What containers do you use to store food, sprays, chews, etc.?

Title! Wondering if there is a benefit to using glass over plastic or vice versa, if ziploc bags are suitable, and what you all use.

I use the lock and lock boxes as they're apparently the only plastic boxes that are completely air tight. They are also BPA free, which is something I'm conscious of with plastic these days. Things like glass mason jars are nice and more natural (but maybe don't stack? So take up more space), although not completely airtight, but probably airtight enough! They also look very nice. Personally, anything glass in this house, usually ends up broken!

Great, thank you! Are these the lock n lock boxes you’re referring to? Also, are ziploc baggies safe? For things I have in small quantities mostly

Yes those are the lock n lock boxes - but it can work out quite expensive if needing a few! I’ve gradually built mine up. I originally got them because they are apparently the only thing that can keep pantry moths out.

Hello again! Came up with another question lol. I really appreciate your help thus far.

I’ve received most of my orders for my future Syrian hammy, and some of the things like food, forage, treats, chews, etc. came in resealable packaging. After freezing, can I keep those things in their original packaging or do I have to move them to something else like mason jars, ziplocs, or airtight plastic food storage containers?

They're probably fine in resealable packaging - I often do that :-) I really just use the sealable boxes for the main hamster food or a larger amount of treats sometimes.

Awesome, thanks! I was gonna need a lot of airtight containers hahaha

Do you freeze all food?including sprays?
Can the foodmix be frozen for a while and after that be stored at roomtemp or in de fridge, before feeding it? Or should i best keep it in the freezer and feed directly from the freezer?

I am a bit afraid of moist after freezing and molt when the food it hoarded.

The dry food freezes well and stays dry after defrosting 😊. Mine goes straight in a sealed container once it’s defrosted. It’s almost like freeze dried. Defrosts quickly.

And yes I freeze just about everything - food, treats, sprays, wood items that can’t be baked, cork (or you can bake that). Everything that comes from a pet store, is edible and can’t be washed in soapy water or baked.

Thank you, i will freeze the sprays too.
I also have some dried flowers with the sprays, van they be kept in the freezer too, and taken out when needed?

Yes :-) If you have space in the freezer you can just keep them there until needed. Maybe up to a year would be ok. I've found if freezing for a week and then leaving them out for a long time it can still be an issue, which is why some people freeze twice. Sometimes I freeze twice. But with food just leave it in the freezer for a week.

Higgins is only on mixerama now - they pressure treat the food to kill moth eggs etc so freezing is just an extra precaution then.
