Had a bit of a laugh this morning. I'm lying there in bed and something's woken me up. So naturally it's -39 degrees celsius here this morning and I come whipping out of my room because I think the poor furnace has kicked the bucket and the pipes and my poor little hamster are going to freeze. Look over and poor little Chubbs is scared frozen on his new giant wheel. He'd somehow managed to get a treat bowl along the side of the wheel and was making quite a racket :) poor little dude, I was so excited he's using the wheel though and I hardly ever see him out and about! I gave him a little chunk of banana and he seems happier with me. He's gone off to curl up somewhere now. I'm glad my furnace seems to still be working at least! Also Saw this beautiful great grey owl here along my road the other morning before the temps dropped and thought I'd share

I can imagine! They can do some faces! I think they go into a different kind of "mode" on their own at night as well somehow. So are always surprised to see you on "their" time.

Oh no, it is so cold where you are! What temperature is your home? I have never experienced such cold weather.

That owl is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing. 😍

January is usually insane cold like this, but we were spoiled with beautiful warm weather with no snow for November and December so it's a little more of a shock this year! The furnace is managing to keep the house around 20-21 C but it's running hard! I rent a basement suite so I have in floor heating that my landlord installed, as well as the furnace vents- I was contemplating putting Chubbs' tank on the floor- the way the tank is built there would be about an inch gap between the bottom of the aquarium glass and the heated floor. For now, I put a couple of fleece blankets on his cage with a gap for air of course. I think he would be fine but I'm paranoid anyhow. The windows in the basement are old and there's a draft from them but I moved Chubbs away from them too. I work snow removal for a job in the winter so I'm used to the cold but it's still a hassle when it's like this. Yesterday morning I woke up to -42C. Edmonton, which is the capital city and about an hour from me, was in the top five yesterday for the coldest places on earth! I won't be able to drive anywhere today as the plug for my block heater busted off in the cold when I went out to plug it in! Lol it's probably for the best anyhow, as even with the heater, it's so hard on the engine. I am also on an acreage so I have to check on the heater for my well house to make sure it doesn't freeze too! So it will be a boring day at home today! I'm having myself a Doctor Who marathon. David Tennant isn't hard to look at, skinny little beanpole that he is!!!!

I honestly cannot imagine -42! It was freezing cold here last night and only about -2!

What you said about Doctor Who made me laugh! I hope you enjoy the marathon and wrap up warm. 😂

Lol I think a damp -2 would be bone chilling though! Here it's more so a "dry you will get frostbite in 60 seconds if you're not covered " kind of thing! We're all still out and about here-if our plugs don't bust off anyhow hahahaha

My Dad was from Belfast so when we go over to visit, I always find it strange that I can be chilled at -2! But the damp can be so cold!

Are you in Canada? I have a friend from Canada who says it reaches -40 and they all wear fur coats and hats. I still couldn't imagine how you protect your face in that cold! Sounds like you need a sledge and some huskies if the plugs have split! Or is it just freezing but no snow?

Yup I'm in the central part of Alberta! No snow today but we did finally get almost 8 inches the other day. Which is good because we're going to be in for a nasty drought come spring since it didn't snow all of November and December. Usually this time of year we have at least a solid foot of snow base on the ground. I wear either insulated coveralls or ski pants and a winter jacket. This kind of cold a balaclava is a must and a toque. Obviously need some serious gloves too because that's the first part to freeze! The snowsuits in the pictures are technically for riding my snowmobile but they're handy if I need to go outside right now. Very expensive though so I don't use them for work. I wear the galaxy ski pants, the heavy blue coat and the balaclava and boots for work. And long underwear too! Not sure where my gloves are right now lol but they're cheap snowboarding mitts off Amazon but are really good gloves!
