I think paper is a lot softer and you can see the wees. Hemp tends to break down into a fine dust! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉ Ness

The Hugro hemp is especially made for hamsters, he loves his hemp mat so much, so I thought I would give it a try.
Why would you not use it? 🌺
I thought the hemp I bought was a bit rough and dusty. I used it in the piggy cages, but the woodshavings I get from Nature's Own and Pillow Wad are softer. I liked the super soft paper for Socks πŸ›οΈ

At the end of the day it's all down to personal choice. I wouldn't but it's up to you😊 it literally breaks down into dust and I buy expensive hemp for my girls because I love them so much. It also can have sharp bits in it even when the majority is soft.πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉ Ness

Also if you decide you really want to use it, I recommend that you freeze it to kill any bugs! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉNess

I could only say what I've experienced with the Peking bantan chickens, they are small and lovely,I hope you didn't mind my view on the subject.πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉNess

I'll be interested in what you find! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉ

Teddy had a good night last night, I wasn't sure how he'd be after the big clean out , but he was fine . He's made some new burrows in different places to normal.. right at the front of the enclosure so that will be good to watch. I took the lid off his corner sand bath as well. Taking him out he seemed a lot bigger ( no ted I'm not calling you chubby) so I thought remove the lid, it had a huge hole in the lid .now he can just get in. He totally loved it ,so that's good. He's now playing in both sand baths for sure, which is good. He enjoyed his piece of carrot and nibblot in his dish so I think I might be forgiven . I mean surely it must be nice to have clean bedding,I know I love it . Love you teddy! 😊πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉNess

Lovely Teddy πŸ₯° It's great that he has been busy designing his tunnels and enjoying his sand baths ❀️🐾 Super that he is growing nice and big πŸΎπŸ‘

Hi guys. I use Bucatstate paper πŸ’•πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸΉNess
Thanks 😊. It’s good to know that paper bedding is good too.

@Amy - Kaytee is popular too and very similar to fitch - it can take an awful lot of it to fill something like a Bucatstate though - the compressed bales are supposed to expand but it still doesn’t seem to go as far as the fitch for the equivalent weight. I find one 70 litre bag of fitch gives about 8” of bedding in a 100 cm cage. If they do ship it, it might not be economical if the delivery is expensive - although if Amazon ship it it might not be too bad.

Hugro hemp bedding - tends not to break down in hamster cages - I personally still found it a bit scratchy - I didn’t use it because it set off asthma and hay fever.

Spruce shavings are ok if you can get those in Germany 😊. Some people mix those with paper. Chipsi is supposed to be part spruce but they don’t commit to saying what the percentage is.

Spruce is equivalent to hardwood in terms of phenol levels - ie negligible.

Teddy was up a good 5 hours last night, very active enjoying his enclosure. He loved his pea and Nibblot then worked it off on his wheel. He's also started some new burrows and amazingly they are right at the front by the door.you can see down the one quite far. I know they usually don't like it when you clean and move things but it seems to have inspired him to do some things differently. He loves the baths since I removed the lids. Love you teddy πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉπŸ§Έ Ness

Teddy was very active last night, he's made so many tunnels everywhere ( he must be exhausted) I love it when you see that brown head pop out the top of the tunnel, beautiful. Love you teddy 🧸πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉNess

Teddy had a good night last night, he enjoyed his veg and German biscuit. I think the biscuit is very hard but I'm told it's very good for their teeth.i wouldn't mind hearing what other things you'd use for wearing their teeth down? He doesn't seem to want to destroy anything in his enclosure, which is a good thing but I do wonder about his teeth πŸ€”πŸ§ΈπŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉ Ness

Is it these? It says they are suitable for hamsters as well. They look good :-) If they are really hard though, I'd be careful giving them to older hamsters - one of our older syrians teeth broke chewing hard baked biscuits!

Yes, would you advise something else?πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉ Ness

Teddy had an adventurous night last night, he's been very busy burrowing some new tunnels. He enjoyed his pea and Nibblot! I've got him some dandelion root so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to it. Love you teddy. πŸ€—πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉ Ness

Enjoy your dandelion root Teddy πŸ₯° Socks had one near his bed for a long time and used to nibble on it in bed πŸ₯° I carefully replaced it after cage cleaning as it got smaller and smaller and became two pieces of dandelion eventually ❀️

I'm sure he will,😊 I've been sorting some bits out that I didn't put in the enclosure. I think they are more useful to use in the bath! πŸ›€ I'm sure he'll soon tell me if he's not amused, there was a castle that came that wasn't as good as it looked in the pictures, I wouldn't put it in the enclosure but it's ok in the bath with me there supervising. Should be funπŸ€—πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸΉ Ness
