Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

Socks: Mom, I dreamt we were back on the Hamster Forum with our friends 🐾
Mom: Yes, they have unjumbled the forum. Maz and her techie friends are heroes 💜
Socks: Wow, I didn't think it was possible to do an unjumblement. The forum is back and looking amazing and things are where they were. It's a hammy's dream come true 🙏🐾
Mom and Socks: Just amazing 💜

Good to see you again Socks! Blossom has missed you 🌸❤️🧦…loving the word unjumblement. I might adopt it myself!

His fur is really lovely now. A sort of blend of brown and black everywhere :-)

Great to see Socks again on here! Is that a cooling tile under the dish, or is it on top of some kind of hide? Looks like a nice spot for his nap

He's on top of his Omlet compostable multi chamber house. It does look like stone, but it's just cardboard. We got two which came with the cage. They are nice and light so don't need suppoets. It's been chewed downstairs to create an extension to his bedroom 🥰

Those are excellent! (Compostable multiroom hides). You've reminded me that I had sent for some ages ago. They were out of stock at the time so I had to wait for ages. Then when they were delivered I wasn't here and the box got put somewhere - I had completely forgotten about them! Must find them!

Mom: We did the playpen last night, with the big sand bath, at 2am.
Socks: A nice roll in the sand followed by some energetic wheel running. I had sweet potato for dinner, along with a variety of other things 💪
Mom: I woke up at 4:30am to see Socks meerkatting, gazing down the hallway. I opened the cage door and waited, but he continued to stand and stare. So I shut the door and watched. Eventually he got a bit hunched, but carried on standing and staring. I spoke to him in a sing song voice. I wondered later if perhaps he was using ultrasound to estimate areas outside his cage.
Socks: I turned my head and gazed in your direction a few times, but stayed where I was. Mom dozed off.
Mom: As the light increased, and I saw Socks carefully going through his dry food to pouch some of it, including ground flax seeds and oats. Then he quickly went into his compostable MCH to get into his nest for the day. Dayie day Socks.
Socks: Dayie day Mom.

He's a lucky boy having attention at that time of night/morning! :-) I had to laugh when you said he was meerkatting (as if wanting to come out) but then didn't when you went to let him out. It's like "I want to come out but on my own not with you here ha ha".

I have to say I do find their behaviour very different in the middle of the night, It's as if their brain kicks into wild hamster mode - they forget about us and they can look a bit spaced out if they see you in the night. It's their alone time normally.

Socks: Mom put some fresh Fitch bedding in as the Carefresh was getting worn out and dusty. It's a nice airy bedding for warm weather. She's added a second platform and an extra corner sand bath. I'm eating my veggies atm.
Mom: I can hear Socks crunching lettuce. He seems to be able to chew OK still 🙂.
Socks: I'm not as spritely as I once was. My paws are a little thinner. My feet drag a bit when I am stepping from Mom's hand onto the roof for my veggies, as if I've lost track of what they are doing, but I still run on my wheel energetically and can zip round the playpen like a little bird.
Mom: Socks might be a little stiff and weaker in his limbs. He never bar climbs anymore. Perhaps he is a little old and tired. His dusk aerial predator angst is less. Perhaps when you are old and tired the thought of your mortality is less disturbing ❤️

I think sometimes it's nice when they slow down and are calmer :-) He still wakes you up early hours though doesn't he? He is looking very handsome in his old age.

Aw, he just loves that little dish. I like the way he's peeking out of it

👩 & 🧦: Thank you ❤️
Yes, Socks runs on his wheel and as soon as I wake up, he hops across to the front of the cage to meerkat for a trip to the playpen.
Socks: but if it's too early Mom goes back to sleep and we catch up later at about 3am.
Mom: Sometimes we miss each other altogether 😀
