Sky had a busy evening, it’s a bit bright at the front of his cage with the lights on but I could see him running around & he was making lots of noise digging & banging, I wondered what he was up to until I remembered putting an apple stick with beetroot & pea flakes on the shelf behind the wheel so I think he was having a go at that!
No sign of him when I got up, all the food was gone again though so he’s building up a nice little stash already..
About half seven I heard him come out for a drink & then from eight till about half past he was out having a run in his wheel, it was a nice steady relaxed run too not the super fast nervous stop start they sometimes do.
I’ve only been talking to him so far but he seems very happy.

Thanks MacKyen , he is very cute! He’s being very shy too at the moment but it is early days, hopefully he’ll start getting brave soon.
The RUB is great, it’s so nice to set up.

Things are going really nicely with little Sky, every time I see that inquisitive little face with his big ears & bright eyes he totally melts my heart!
I left him alone apart from just chatting to him from across the room until Sunday evening then decided it was time to try a little interaction.

I’d seen him in his food bowl at the front of the cage, waited until he’d had some food then disappeared into the back of the cage somewhere & went over to say hello, he popped out on top of his house & just looked really curious to see me there, not afraid at all so I opened the door & put my hand in with a pine nut on my fingers & he had a little exploratory nibble of my finger & completely missed the nut before running off & coming back to the front part of the cage, he was a little wary of my hands so I just dropped a few treats where he was foraging & he carried on totally happy & relaxed.

I had another go yesterday evening & he was still in his bowl at the front (he has some food in the bowl & some scattered) he was so engrossed in don’t think he saw me coming so I did startle him & he shot off to the back but after a few moments of my talking & calling him he came back.
He was just a little nervous when I put my hand back in with a pumpkin seed so I dropped it in his bowl & he really made me laugh trying to get it into his mouth, it was too big so he ran off to hide it before coming back again.
I held a teeny piece of walnut between my fingers & he reached out sniffing & took that, then did it again twice more (I might be going a bit overboard on treats for a day or two!) then just carried on foraging totally relaxed & unfazed with me there.

This is quite a long video but I think it’s worth watching for the end!

I’ve only seen him once in the morning when I startled him going over to do his water but he was out this morning, I did startle him again & he ran off but it didn’t take long for him to come back again, a little bit nervous at first but then he happily took two sunflower seeds from my fingers before disappearing off with his prize!
He’s such a sweet little boy & I’m really pleased with how well things are going & how happy he seems

He is very brave! I really thought he was coming out of the door so I moved my phone a bit quick & spooked him a little at the end, he’s come right up to the door a few times now, think I’d better put the playpen there just in case!

Good progress, pretty fast for a Chinese! I don't think there's much getting around the extra treats early on, glad he's approaching you. He seems really sweet, does he even nip at all?

Thanks ilguy, no he doesn’t nip, I’ve never had a Chinese that did, when I put my hand in with no food he has a good sniff & a little bit of an exploratory nibble but not actually biting.

Thank you Mackyen, he was so brave for a couple of days but he’s gone a bit shy now! Baby steps at the moment.
