I wonder if Scottie is older than i was told, not that it matters.
He has days when he looks a bit rugged, something i noticed in Gordon when he was between 1.5 - 2.

He may be. How old do you think he is?

That is such a beautiful picture of Scottie. I think when we rescue hamsters we can never really be sure of their true age.

Going by what i was told, he'd be around 17/18 months now.

He's always looked a bit dishevelled at times, especially his face. I used to think he had a bump on his face because the fur stood up but when i checked him and stroked his face the fur smoothed out.

That is a lovely photo, it’s hard to tell from photos but I guess it’s not that unlikely you weren’t given his correct age.

I think even if he is just 18 months they can start the ageing raggy look about that age.

I know off people who knocked quite a few months off their hamsters age to be able to sell them.

That doesn’t surprise me. Always sad when you find someone selling an old hamster of 2 years ish - just when they need vet treatment usually.

That's the two wooden chews he kicks about to wake me up. He re purposed them.
The red leaf was meant to catch any drips from the bottle and the green dinasaur was meant to be a little step for the tube.

That is very smart. I picture Scottie crashing symbols if he had the chance.

Scottie just climbed on my hand to get a seed. He also checked if my hand was edible.

I find that hamsters often mellow when they get older and Scottie is starting to show signs of ageing appearancewise. He's also about a lot more but is not keen on coming out. Often he hovers around while i chat to him and walks onto the open door but when i go to stroke him or offer his taxi he's like 'whaaat!' and takes off to the nearest shelf. He's like an older person who likes people to come round for a chat but doesn't want to leave the comforts of his home.
Whatever he's happy with is fine with me. It is lovely to interact with him daily though.

Syrians and some dwarfs can be quite full on, ours are anyway. The subtlety of Robos makes for a good balance and enables us to keep so many rescue hamsters.

He certainly sounds happy & I can relate to that Scottie 😆

I get what you mean about the balance & I find that with the older hams, it’s nice just to enjoy some quiet time with them especially when you have the more frenetic younger ones too!

Aww, I tried Orko with a tiny bit of banana yesterday and he loved it. Did Scottie act surprised by the texture at first?

His little face on that photo :-)
