I never buy cork logs online because i want to choose them myself. Reptile shops always stock them and some small independent pet shops as well.

I'd bake the apple branch at 100C for an hour in case it harbours insects or their eggs.

I used a door from a small perspex tank style cage and cut the bars to fit it on. It's on the DIY thread.

I love the diy top lid - definitely going to do that to mine. Husband says it’ll be easy (there is a huge advantage to having a husband with a ginorm-shed of tools even if he doesn’t like hamsters! 🤣)

The log doesn’t fit in the oven 🥴 I have given it a really really thorough clean though 🤞

Final mods - I’m still waiting on the sprays. Think I’ll get a few from Etsy as the Amazon ones seem to be taking forever to come :(

The apple branch is now nicely secure 🥰 We also put a bolt fastening in the small one on top of the hide, so he can use that to get up on his substrate shelf!

I’m looking at the sand boxes from Happy Henry’s homes to pop under the wheel - should contain a bigger area of sand for him and he can use the shelf to get on the wheel (I changed the wheel to fit on the short end as it opens it up more and means I’ll be able to see him running on it if I turn from my desk! 😍 I just need to work out which size I need to order, then it’ll all be complete!

He’s arriving later today 🥰 (his foster said he’ll be fine without his sand bath for a few days).

That looks great! He’s really going to love that & you must be so excited with him coming today. Really looking forward to hearing about him once he begins to settle in.
I always put the wheel at the short end too, it does make a lot more space.

Everything is looking so lovely. I am so happy for you. It is so very exciting to wait for your little one to arrive. :)

It looks fab! He's a very lucky boy. I'm just amazed at the speed you managed to create a lovely home like that. Can't wait to meet him.

It looks great :-). I would probably add a bit more substrate but it’s up to you. I tend to sometimes add things at roof level to prevent any falls onto hard items like the bendy bridge or log- if they happen to monkey bar across the roof at night. But it depends how far the drop is. I can’t see how high up the branch is in the cage and it might not be much of a drop. With the bendy bridge you can just put hemp mat over it.
