Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

He is tidy with his treats but not with anything else! He has pee'd on two of his shelves!

He often sits in front of it with his head inside, snacking on his special treats

That made me think of Winnie the pooh with his head in a honey pot!

It is a bit like that!

That's funny he has that, his own little food stand. How old is Raffy now?

 

[Maz]

He's not that young . I reckon he'll be about two years old by Christmas, which would make him about 22 months old later this month.

Aw, any plans for his birthday?

 

[Maz]

Well I need to make a reminder of when his possible birthday might be! He was adopted and I was never quite sure how old he was. He would have a gotcha day next April but I'd rather do his approximate birthday in December. Which might coincide with Christmas! I will try and work it out. But yes I think he deserves a birthday do!

Oh he definitely has to have a birthday! Many of mine have been guesstimates but it’s nice to make a special day for them.

Same, had to guess on all mine too. But Raffy is one lucky boy, Christmas right next to it too. I can imagine him getting a little cardboard box shaped puzzle under a plant.

A second birthday must be marked even if approximately. Special day for a very special Raffy

I prefer to think about it nearer the time . You just never know with older hamsters but hopefully all will be ok.

Raffy escaped the living room again tonight. There is a barrier over the door between the living room and the rest of the house, which I have to step over to go to do things in another room occasionally. Clearly I knocked it out of place slightly as I stepped over it tonight. As I turned round in the other room to find Raffy following me!

Awwww, that has to be the single best way for an escape to play out. Glad he was okay, hope he had a fun adventure!

That must have been so funny to turn around and see Raffy following you.

He has done this before. Luckily he just follows me rather than disappearing off in a different direction. It's quite sweet really - he just follows me and walks behind me. However he had a good nosey of things in the other room before I got him to walk into a tube, and I had just disinfected a cage earlier and had all the bits propped agains the wall while it dried, ready to put away, and Raffy decided to rummage around there so now it will have his scent on it! I might have to clean it again. The whole point is to remove a hamster's scent ready for use the next time!

I had the other Plaza out in the living room as well, ready to set up. The base was on the stand but the bars were propped up on the floor as I'd just brought it downstairs. I think Raffy rubbed up against those as well! Serves me right for leaving anything on the floor. This cage is for the new hamster that's coming so will wipe the bars down again! He knows something is going on with cages around the place.

It's like "it's mine, all mine - any cage is mine!" It was his old cage in the living room actually! Yes he is a very nosey hamster and likes to know exactly what is going on and investigate.

He’s a cheeky fella, so cute he follows you. Perhaps he’s thinking a multi cage setup would be nice
