Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Thank you Rainbow, yes he is :) . I suppose they had to weigh up the chances of lungworm affecting a hamster, with the effect of unlicensed wormer on a hamster.

That’s good to hear, I doubt it’s something they get asked very often! Good to know you don’t need to worry now.

It's useful information for the future as well :)

I love all the outtake photos. I've heard that models can be very difficult on photo shoots. I think the fame goes to their heads 😉🐹📸
Very pleased to hear the vet isn't worried about Raffy and he's ok 🐹💕

Here are some out-takes of Raffy and the fabric leaves. I took a LOT of photos - and only the one was half decent. First of all I put the leaf garland on the floor. Raffy ignored it completely and didn't investigate. I tried putting some treats in it but he didn't notice. He was busy doing his thing in his playground under the coffee table.

So then I thought I'd put the garland in his dig box under the coffee table - that didn't quite work either as he doesn't sit still for a minute! Next attempt was the garland and Raffy on the sofa. Again he didn't sit still and kept wandering off. Finally I tried hiding his tube in the garland he just came through it fast then turned and looked at it. But did manage to get the one half decent one for the photo comp!

😆 I love this! It takes work to get that perfect hammy pic!

Raffy has eaten a slug. I saw him on the carpet seeming to eat something that looked like a bit of stick - he was chomping away at it. But it was actually a slug. I tried to stop him and he pouched the rest of it. Which is why I am up late waiting for him to depouch it. I think he has now but not sure where. He clearly found it a very tasty snack but there is a risk of worms so I’ll call the vet tomorrow to see if he needs worming treatment and when.

Before that he was looking very cute in his dig box

On the first photo he looks just like he's waiting for his opertunity and Raffy that's disgusting slugs are not gourmet

Thanks Jain - yes he does look like he's thinking about something on the first one. I think he knew I wanted him to investigate the garland on the floor which is why he deliberately stayed away from it - even when I put treats down. Eventually he ran past it (one of the blurry ones). The only time he was anywhere near it was when sniffing out the treats and eating them but that took seconds and he was off again. The one I used for the competition was one of the last ones - where he had been out for a while and burned off some energy and finally seemed interested and a bit slower and had a sniff.

Yes Raffy, slugs are disgusting. He must have seen it as meat I think.

It can take ages with a speedy hamster, and lots of photos and still not get a perfect hammy pic 🤣 Although some hamsters will pose!

Cinnamon won't pose either- my best shots nowadays are often doing a screengrab of the perfect moment from a video!

I’ve had the occasional Syrian who will pose but not straight away - they seem to like to have a good play first.

Raffy tonight. He still looks and behaves a bit like a baby hamster :-). Raffy the eternal teenager.

Hello Raffy 😍
He does look quite babyish still, very cute & full of mischief no doubt!

Thank you :-) And doesn't he know it! :ROFLMAO:

Whatever his age, Raffy is just adorable and exploits it!

He always looks so adorable and huggable. I agree, he does look younger in this photo, cute ☺️

I completely missed the slug post, ewwww, pleased Raffy is ok, good attempt trying to get it away from him. That’s never easy with hamsters and food.

Raffy is due a partial clean - mainly mess on shelves. When I have a moment to tackle it. I had a peek from a distance into his ceramic hide (AKA special treat store) on his shelf and it is full of stuff! He often sits in front of it with his head inside, snacking on his special treats. I will just check that and as long as nothing is going manky I will leave it alone. He has already realised he can't fit inside it along with the treats!
