Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

They are really funny when they tell you things like that! By putting it by the door as if to say - take it away human! Pip doesn't like carrot. Raffy eats anything just about.

Maybe you could start Hams own thread when you get chance :). I really liked following his progress.

Thanks Maz, he does have a page here, I’m just a naughty hamster mum and haven’t updated it recently. Still finding my way around the site reading everyone else’s posts 😀 especially the Robos chatting which is fabulous!

Beryl - yes, no more cauli 😂😂

I'm very sorry! Of course he does! Silly me.

Charlie was the picky one I had - he would turn his nose up at so many things and give you a filthy look if you put something out he didn't approve of. Strawberry? NOoo. He hated strawberry. Blueberry? NOoooo how dare you put that there? He was definitely an old fashioned meat and 2 veg hamster lol

Raffy really looks like a grown up boy now. And he has got more experienced at filling his pouches. He did a fair bit of pouching tonight! First he ate a tasty snack of mashed potato from a spoon, then foraged a bit and then spent ages pouching from his food bowl and really does have full pouches! And that's before he even went to eat his blueberry.

Both very short video clips. First - sleepy and snacking on his mashed potato. Second - filling his pouches. He is seeming more laid back already as a grown up hamster.

He has grown so much! He looks so healthy now. He is beautiful.

Lovely to see Raffy all grown up and filling up his pouches.
Mind you, he had to have a pause before going into his house- perhaps checking that he hadn’t overdone it and could still fit through the door opening!

Ah the pause was a noise he heard in the kitchen! He heard the clink of a teaspoon in a cup and froze a bit. Or did you mean he paused at the house entrance? It does show why Syrians need large house entrances!

I saw him freeze a bit after filling his pouches but assumed he saw you nearby with your phone and only went below when he was satisfied all was well.
No, I meant at his house entrance, after all you don’t want to get stuck there if you have been too greedy!

The entrance holes are 7cm wide for that reason! But yes maybe he wondered if they would be big enough for him!

Raffy is definitely grown up and bolder than ever. He has recently started banging the bars to get my attention when he wants to come out. Probably because he comes out later now so I don't always notice when he's out straight away. It's like a riot in a prison!

I find that so cute! He is very good at communicating with you. :)

Thank you :-). Yes he is very used to me.

Raffy missed coming out for a night the night before last. I did see if he wanted to come out but he didn't. He probably wanted to come out at 1am but I had gone to bed. Last night it was like the prison bar rattling again! He literally makes a racket against the bars like he is shaking them! To get my attention to say "I want to come out!". And when I put his tube in the cage for him to climb in he literally leapt into it from his shelf. I have never known a male syrian like him for wanting to be out so much.

He has a favourite corner at the back of the cage where he sits for a wash - or just sits. He seems to spend quite a bit of time sitting there. He's still a bit of a nomad gypsy with a tiny half nest. I think the reason he likes that corner is it's at the end of the cork tunnel.

Aww he is so cute. I can just picture him rattling the bars to get your attention!

It's official. Raffy does not want to live in a cage - he wants to live in a house and be a gypsy. Wherever he lays his hat (or bit of substrate) is his home! My little gypsy boy. He is either out or asleep! Apart from mid evening when I want him out and he decides to wait till I'm going to bed. He does like to back to his cage after a while though. He is highly active!
