Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Raffy is still out free roaming every night although he missed last night as I went to bed before he was up. He seems quite content in his temporary plaza. Although I think he’s missing the roof tube a bit but sits in the back right corner for a long wash as usual.

His Plaza 120 cage is completely done. But not put back together yet. No more moths for a few days so I think they were just from his cage and food.

Rib muscles are healing ok which is a relief and I’m off the painkillers now. I’m still quite careful with bending though and have been using a long bendy tube to let Raffy out at floor level. And for him to walk back into again. Thankfully he is easy like that.

Great to hear that Raffy is still coming out to free roam & seems happy enough in his temporary set up.
Glad to hear you’re really making progress with the moth issue & that the pain is beginning to ease now too.

I spoke too soon about the pain! It got worse again last night after I bent to wipe something I spilled on the floor. Silly me. So back to being careful and resting a bit. Need to get one of those long handled dustpan and brushes to use for a while.

It’s easily done when the pain starts to ease off, hope it really starts to improve more soon.

He is still full of beans and mischief. Getting him downstairs in that tube is no mean feat - he pushes against the end to try and get out! But it's very useful for him to get in and out of at floor level and it's very helpful of him However he is still keeping me on my toes and trying to get past the barrier.

Raffy: I used to live downstairs but wasn't allowed upstairs.
Now I live upstairs and free roam downstairs but I'm still not allowed upstairs

Ha ha yes that's about the size of it.

Raffy was unusually affectionate last night. While he was out free roaming, he came and sat on my foot for ages. Which is not something he has done before. He seemed to be washing his front paws and just sitting there. So I picked him up and he didn't even wriggle, which is not like him! And he sat for a cuddle and stroke for ages. It was really nice. Maybe he has picked up that I have not been quite myself this week-end.

Raffy was in a more perky zooming mode tonight. Doing his usual pottering around the room then every now and then a zoom off somewhere. He’s changed the odd habit in his cage as things are a bit different in the temporary plaza. He now puts his special treats in his wheel - temporarily. Then later takes them to the house.

Could be another week before his old cage is set up ready for him to move back to as need to sort a few things in the room first and get the other cage dismantled and some cleaning up done and things are taking a long time to achieve at the moment.

So precious of him to give you some cuddles! He knew you needed some extra love. Were you able to get the moths out okay? Sounds like he's done well in his temporary digs

They've all gone - haven't seen any for a week, once his main cage had all the bedding chucked and a hoover around. It'll take me a while to get him moved back though as I'm still having to rest a lot.
