Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Thank you clacombe :) He really is adorable, if independent and doesn't seem to have aged at all!

I refurbished Raffy’s egg box treat thing that lives on his out of cage dig box. He still regularly goes to nibble it even though there wasn’t much left on it. So while I was making Molly’s pyramid treat I stuck some more seeds on Raffy’s egg box. Not so easy with the centre bits being upright, to get the seeds to stick but I’m sure it’ll keep him occupied. The pyramids on their own are easier as you can roll them in the seeds.

So - Raffy ignored the additional toilet on the shelf in the corner for some time. Tonight I noticed he had been in it because sand had been kicked out. But instead of using it as a toilet he has continued to pee on the shelf in front of it!

He hasn’t had his egg box yet as he went back to bed after getting his food and I’m going to bed now.

It’s not often we get to see him stay in one spot that long, he must have been enjoying it a lot!

I like the way he looks up near the end - but he goes away - I think he doesn’t like my phone pointing at him.

Every hamster I've had also disliked being filmed by a phone as well. Maybe with their poor depth perception they see this black area and think it's a possible predator?

That’s possible. Yet he knew I was there as well talking to him. I’ve had some hamsters try to eat the camera though :)

I love seeing Raffy and it was extra special because he was sitting still for a bit 🐹😍

Aw thank you Frida :) I love seeing him too - he's usually racing around.

Thanks Hank :-) I think he's adorable anyway :)

Raffy and the mirror ................ I have felt so mean not letting Raffy out the last couple of nights. I went to bed before he got up deliberately. Not had opportunity to get the room cleaned up yet after the mouse, as I am a bit grounded with a muscle tear (which is painful). Last night though, he woke up early and was desperate to come out, and I let him out in the only other room which is hamsterproof. There is a floorstanding tall mirror in there. Well Raffy spent ages looking at himself in the mirror! Very close up. He did this a couple of times. He had great fun rummaging in that room and hiding behind all sorts of things and giving me cheeky looks.

He is also due a cage clean as it's been over six months and I am slightly freaked after finding a moth on the side of his cage and a couple of others fluttering about. They don't look like pantry moths as they are very small, but one was on his cage and one was just behind it. We had the heating on all day and night for a couple of days when it was very cold so that might be something to do with it.

I'll be doing that over the next few days with some help.

I wish I could have seen that! I can just imagine Raffy in front of the mirror, I wonder what he was thinking 🤔
Good luck with the moths & all the cleaning.

I too wish I could have seen Raffy looking in the mirror! He sounds like he had such a lot of fun there. 😍
