playpen suggestions please

Does it fold down easily? Or do you have it up permanently?
It's held together with joints, that's the one problem. It doesn't take long to put it together, but it's a bit like Lego. You could divide it into a few big flat pieces and stand them in a corner or under a bed, but every time you use it, it needs a bit of shoving parts together.

It looks like this:

Unless you can store it assembled. It can be put together in various ways and also used to partition off an area. Replacement panels are available. I couldn't sit in it, but it is big enough for hamsters to scoot around in quite energetically.

It's a difficult one - portability costs more. The cheaper one that could be any size you want, requires a bit more effort to put together and take about - that seems to be the size of it. If you do decide on the HHH one, just be aware that despatch can take a while! Delivery isn't always that quick. It's a family run business and a lot of orders I think.

If she didn’t chew I’d just get a pop up, but I doubt it would last more than one outing 😏

The pop ups might be ok for now - she will probably climb the sides though. I think solid sided would be better for her perhaps. The wood ones last well - I've had mine for years and used it with four hamsters now. At one point I had it round the outside of a coffee table which gave a kind of roof, and so I could leave it up in the living room without it taking up too much space - and I've used the panels as a door blocker before as well - propped up with a wellington boot on the other side :) Now Raffy free roams I use the panels as door blockers and to section off a corner of the room where I don't want him to go.

I agree that solid sided would be much better for her. I think I'll have to stick with the play box for now and re evaluate when I start my new job and have more funds. I'll keep my eyes open in the meantime for any bargains 👀

The song mix is very good value too and has solid sides. Even if it’s not quite as quick to assemble each time.

Actually forget I asked! I’ve just read the reviews and one guy said his Syrian hamster climbed out of it within 30 seconds of being put in it!

Yes unfortunately, a Syrian would be over the top in seconds in that one!

Bars can be hazardous if there are gaps hamsters could get stuck in. I'm still rooting for the Happy Henry pen. Viking Lazer might do something for you if you gave them plans, but it might be pricey unfortunately.

I used 32 litre underbed storage boxes for my Syrians. Closely supervised. They worked well. Easy to clean too.

They were too busy exploring to try and escape. They were also very laid back male Syrian hamsters!

If you have a bath they can make good playpens with something non slip I the bottom.

The songmatics one is fine if you use metal cable ties instead of the hard round plastic things to fit the panels together. They can then be folded for storage.
