I’m thinking about a playpen for Miss Blossom 🌸🤔 Here are her/my requirements…
1) needs to be robust…Miss B is a chewer, so nothing flimsy she could bite through 😏
2) needs to be high sided enough…Miss B will take any opportunity to escape that she can 😏
3) must be foldable and super easy to set up and pack away…there isn’t space for a permanent set up
4) not too expensive 💵

I'm not sure but she might be able to chew that? Is it inflatable? There are some good wood ones that fold away easily but they are expensive - about £50. Some people on here have this type - but I think it's not so easy to take apart and fold away

The pop up type playpens are fairly inexpensive. She might climb the sides but you could keep an eye on that perhaps.

This is probably the most secure that's easy to put away - it's similar to the one I have - but it does cost £50 ish.

They are easy to unhook and slide the panels under a sofa or something.

Or you could make one maybe - I did have one made from coroplast (correx) which is like plasticised corrugated cardboard - it bends to the shape you want - for corners etc, and was held together by bulldog clips. But tbh it didn't work out that cheap! It cost me about £25 for the Correx and that was a long time ago. Plus it wasn't as secure as a bought one - as I found! Hamsters could push the pieces apart so you had to keep a close eye.

It looks OK. It might smell strongly in an indoor space. Also, if chewed I would worry about whether it's toxic for small animals or could cause impaction. If washed and aired and monitored it might be OK.

I feel like the dogs paddling pool would be difficult to blow up every time you want to use it.

The songmics one is great in size and height but could easily be chewed. It could work if you attach cardboard along the bottom. You would be supervising her in there anyway.

There is also a wooden one that Getzoo do. It would be harder for Blossom to chew out of but it will cost more.

The Songmics pen is good. Socks tried to chew it at first, but after I stopped him each time he gave up and turned his attention to his tunnels and cardboard boxes 😄

There is also the Skyline one that I have that is very similar to the Happy Henry Homes one but it's the same price and I can't really recommend it as the last one I had was faulty and didn't fit together (and also quite splintery) so the quality control has gone downhill on that one. I just use the panels for blocking off areas now, rather than as a playpen. I still have the original one which is ok.

For portable it needs to be a pop up on or a wood one I think.

This is a very old video I did about the diy playpen! Our first hamster and first cage - actually it was the first "proper" cage and the second cage. The first one was terrible!. It was a really fiddle taking all the bulldog clips on and off each time though, top and bottom.

Oh that’s a shame. I was just looking at the skyline one. I was thinking it looked like a possible option.

Good points

Hmm 🤔 Thanks for all the replies. I’ll have to give it some thought as there’s no obvious contender. I think the fabric pop ups would be a nightmare as I’m sure B would nibble her way out in seconds. The wooden ones look better, but the HHH one doesn’t have a floor, and Miss B would probably eat the carpet! The skyline one does, but I don’t want to spend lots of money on something that is rubbish quality. We’ll stick with the play box until I can come up with a good option 😏

You can put a blanket down on the floor with the wooden playpen. I have a wooden Getzoo one and this is what I did when I used it. The songmics one has panels that can be used as a floor so that could be an option.

The getzoo one is over £100 🫤😯😫😞🤪

My Skyline one doesn’t have a floor :-). It’s just the same as the HHH one. Do you have a link? Was that from Zooplus? It might be ok - maybe my second one was bad luck - but it’s a hassle if you have to return.

To be honest I don’t think it would be that portable with a floor. I’ve just had it on carpet but some people put a blanket or pieces of cardboard down.

Ah, I thought it looked like it did have a floor...maybe not. Yes, I was looking at zooplus.

The Songmics is OK, it's just the corners that get chewed, and I could put cardboard down to give me a chance to stop Socks from chewing. The plastic is quite smooth so it's not easy to just bite through in one go. It's nice and spacious and light enough to move around.

Does it fold down easily? Or do you have it up permanently?
