I just got it today. A 40 gallon breeder along with new bedding. For now, books on the lids because the clamps don't fit. :(

It looks much better :-) Does it come with a lid or did you have to buy one separately? Has he moved in yet?

He's in there, burrowing somewhere. I had to buy the lid separately. Tank: $60, Lid: $40, bedding $20.

Ouch. At least it's a one off purchase - and you won't need to buy any more bedding for some time :) Now he's had a cage move, it's best to give him 2 or 3 days left alone - but you can still talk to him. It can take them a week to 10 days to fully adjust to a new cage. He'll be enjoying it but it's a big change so best not to try and handle him. Wait till he starts being out a bit on his own and looking more confident. But keep talking to him.

Oh yes I talk to him all the time :) I feel so sad for his anxiety though. I hope he has some capacity to understand all this is for his benefit.

Moving him out of the cage wasn't too much work, just herded him into a box and released him in the other cage

Once he settles in he will be more confident I think. You can literally see a change in behaviour by day 10 I've found. It takes a bit of patience. But best to leave him to sort himself out for a few days and just put food and water out. And don't clean anything for two weeks - not even spot cleaning. They pee very little. Then he'll scent mark everything and settle in :) He's a lucky boy to have that lovely tank and lots of bedding.

At some point it could be good to add things he can sit under so he feels more confident coming out. Eg a platform or a large tunnel in the middle of the cage and something like a shoebox hide. You can make a hide out of a tissue box or shoebox. Platforms are not so easy. Buying them isn't cheap and making them is a fiddle. They tend to be about $15. The front right corner might be a good place. Something like this one would fit in that corner

There's a ladder as well, but that costs extra. Or you could use something you have already

A platform gives them somewhere else to go - and is a good place to put something like a water bottle or bowl or other ceramic item. And it's a place they can sit under for a wash and feel secure.

Hides, houses and tunnels you can use cardboard :) Pringles tubes make a nice large tunnel.

Hurrah! I am so happy you have been able to get the tank for Perturabo. He is going to be so happy. :) Do not worry about having to move him. He will be so much happier having the extra space. :)

Have you seen the Advent Calendar. I think you will get a lovely surprise when you open todays door. :)

Update on the brat. Perturabo got some pathways to run around in. I give him fresh veggies (mostly carrots, lettuce, and broccoli) every day and I think he's slowly getting over the skittish bitey tendency. I should've made the paths sooner. next I'll add sprays and plant them around the enclosure! I've seen him go 8 hours on the wheel throughout the night.
