Did you know that in the Uk 1.5% of households has a hamster? While that doesn't sound much there are apparently 600,000 pet hamsters in the Uk (in 2023).

Pets are a big deal in the UK. I am a Brit and have always had pets growing up. Without question, more than the average. Growing up, all my friends had pets of some description,

All the more reason for vets & pet shops to catch up with hamster knowledge a bit more!

Completely agree! My girls are absolutely obsessed with bringing a hamster story book home as their gold sticker choice book (not sure if im allowed to name the book)... they've brought it home so many times that I've actually got them a copy for Xmas! It's a sweet and funny story but it has an absolutely tiny cage and wire wheel in the pictures inside and I get a slight sense of pride when my girls point out unsuitable items when reading books or looking online etc as well as in pet shops

I am very lucky that I have hamster savvy vets!
