today completes the second full day she's stayed with me and today shes made a full burrow row? idk i feel like she likes to dig and forage more than anything else! im glad to see her settling in and being more active and im hoping moving cages wont be too bad since she'll be traveling w me a good bit! i did get a a traveling case for her but we shouldnt be on the road for longer than an hour maybe an hour and a half at most!

omg exciting update: morning of her third day with me she let me feed her sunflower seeds and followed my fingers around until i pet her!

Lovely you have started a diary for her, and it'll be good seeing her updates They do like burrowing and rearranging things When you say she'll be travelling with you, do you mean regularly? That isn't really recommended. They do best staying in one place in the same location/room etc. Even moving the enclosure to a different room in the house can stress them. Obviously there are times they need to travel - eg for a vet visit. And I have taken an older hamster on holiday with us before (just a 2 hour journey and set up the cage straight away at the far end). But regular travel isn't good for them. Are you having to move between places regularly?

yes! im hoping to get her a good 8" of burrowing space at least w her new enclosure im so excited! unfortunately for travel im taking her home this weekend and back near the end of july. its not ideal but the pet store i got her from had her for four months and wanted to get rid of her so i ended up spontaneously adopting her! i was hoping she'd have a week to get used to her cage and me and i got her a carrier as well! its an hour long drive one way and we wont be driving back here again until the end of july and then again once i graduate in December!

That should be fine. Hamsters usually travel well if they have their familiar bedding and the bedding is deep enough for them to burrow into. Putting a small, lightweight pet blanket or fleece blanket over the carrier can also help to make it feel private and dark. A few trips shouldn't be a problem

It sounds like it's only two trips, well spaced out. So yes she should be fine. If you're having to move her cage and all her contents each time, then something like the Zanzibar cage could be good. It folds down flat I believe so easier to transport. It would be best if she is in the same cage with the same contents all the time, so they move with her, but during travel, she'd need to be in a pet carrier. Something like the Ferplast Aladino Guinea pig sized one (medium size) is good and very popular. It has plenty of space for enough bedding and a small house - but small enough they can't get thrown around in it if there is sudden braking for example.

we've had a full day and a half back home and she's back to being her usual self (i.e. sleeping in random places) she lets me pet her and loved saying hi to my parents and brother! poor baby was shaking really bad when i left her yesterday so we'll see how she is starting tmrw! i'm slowly introducing veggies to her starting w celery and her new cage is arriving tmrw! the last thing i need is a box for her sand bath!

thats good to know! her pet carrier can fit a small hideout and she was very active during the car ride (looking at me, sniffing/exploring, drinking water) she really only started to panic after we got home and set her cage up and i left to run some errands for my parents

omg im def gonna try the blanket tip! would it get too hot for her? this trip my mom drove me back bc i was having car issues so i could hold her in my lap but idk about when im driving up by myself!

If it's hot weather where you are it might be too hot with a blanket, but something cotton should be ok - a throw or pillowcase eg. I sometimes use a large cushion cover that is cotton. It just keeps it darker for them and avoids flashes and glares of light as you're moving around in a car or outdoors.

she's in her new cage! couldn't find her hoard but i moved some bedding and chews/chambers she was using! she was very nervous at first but her
new cage is almost 3x the size of her old cage! my new goal is to get a pet cam and more platforms/enrichment items for her now that i can see how big her new cage is! super excited can't wait to see how she adapts!

went down a rabbit hole and I'm completely redoing pebbles' cage to give her more shelter and foraging area!!! heres haul 1/? from happy hamstery! it was a test haul tbh but everything was so cute (even the hide which came a little broken but still!) i've got like four more orders coming from them and the subscription box which I'm very excited about!! space is def an issue bc i think im getting too much stuff and not wanting to remove others so we'll see! also looking into alternative substrates to layer w her bedding!!!

yesss so far she hasn't reacted to my voice on the cams but i keep moving things around in her cage so that could be why !
