I just saw this on the Ferplast website. The "Domster" - which seems a strange name! It's 120cm by 50cm x 66.5cm tall and seems to be half perspex and half barred top - but with a wood frame. It's quite expensive but large and holds plenty of bedding.

And there's a 100cm version as well. Not much cheaper at £220.

Interesting the way cages are going. Bar biting and deep bedding are filtering into the designs.

Yes, the manufacturers are making options for deep bedding. What is interesting about this one to me, is I wrote to Ferplast some time ago and asked them to make a taller maxi duna multy with a barred section between the base and the top - ie a taller perspex cage with a barred section - they already did that with the standard sized duna (called the duna fun but that cage is too small). All I got in response was a message from customer services saying they would pass my thoughts on to the design team. Nothing else.

It would be nice to think they took the suggestion on board - even though it's a new cage and not an adapted maxi duna. This is actually better as the base is deeper. I think it's more like an updated Ferplast Karat 100 - those are still sold on Amazon at the ridiculous price of about £345! They had a 25cm glass base and a barred top. Many reviews complained the glass arrived broken. But the fact they made a 120cm version as well as a 100cm version means they must have been seeing other manufacturers making 120cm cages with perspex.

The big downside to it is the wood frame. Some hamsters would be fine - some Syrians would just chew through the wood and escape! And the base would collapse.

It also looks like an updated version of a Skyline cage that's no longer made - the Falco - which was a 40cm deep glass tank base with a barred top section. However, it never worked very well as it was about 75cm tall and only had a top door.

I think it might not be good for female syrians! For a hamster that doesn't chew wood, it could be a nice option - apart from the price! Although I noticed that with the current 15% off it comes down to about £180 which is on a par with similar large cages.

It seems to have two small doors on the front and on the top and it looks like the whole top barred roof lifts off as well, and also the whole top barred section looks like it lifts off (separating the two sections). The roof bars have fasteners and I think the top bars will be like the Criceti 100 - so it would be quite good for access.

These cages look nice. It's a shame Ferplast cages are so expensive!

They are expensive - so many of these big tank style ones are over £200 now - I suppose it is 120cm. But even the 100cm one is over £200!

They do have 15% off for September on everything - presumably timed with the new cages. That's quite a chunk off a £220 cage (the 100cm one). It brings it down to £187. Which still isn't cheap but on a par with other tank style cages like the Bucatstate.

I thought maybe they looked good for gerbils too?

They look like they might be good for gerbils, though it would depend on how chewable the wooden frame is.

I remember having Harvest (female long haired cream banded syrian hamster) in a 5 foot by 2 foot rabbit cage (in my bedroom) with a ramp up to the large wooden nesting area. She used to chew and chew at the wooden door frame ... All that space and still tried to break out. She was quite the live wire.

Female hamsters are such chewers! Do you have a photo of Harvest? 😊

I had one on the rabbits united forum. Will try and dig it out.

Here are some rather poor quality pics of Harvest.

That was so annoying when Photobucket stopped working/stopped being free! I had loads of photos on there. I did download most of them before it stopped being accessible though. She was a lovely colour - assume that's why she was called Harvest :-)
