Lucky Nibbles, he does enjoy his free roaming, and so does his mum Hopefully the next heat wave will be easier

Yes I am very lucky that it’s hamster safe in every room of this flat. He loves being free and comes running up to me whilst I sit on the blanket on the floor watching him. I have noticed with free roaming he is far less skittish and getting very tame. It gives them mental stimulation and a boost of bravery

No he doesn’t try to climb them but he loves rolling in them. The balcony door is behind there and he’s loves looking out when he climbs on that platform

My piggies like being out for a short while and then they ask to go back into their familiar cages. Polo will literally sit up and beg to go back to his cage

I read somewhere that a hamster didn’t like going into a playpen and didn’t want to leave his cage, Nibbles was like this at first too. He was nervous and on edge. Then he got used to the playpen.
Meanwhile he’s so much braver, he loves to investigate and really needs this free roaming. I believe it’s mental stimulation, I can see I big difference in his personality he really interacts with me and likes to play. It makes me so happy to see him like this, it’s tiring as you really have to watch them all the time (and he moves fast) but at the same time so rewarding

I have always been concerned about Nibbles diet as he is an extremely fussy hamster. He doesn’t like mealworms, refused egg in any firm, cooked chicken
I didn’t know what to give him in form if protein. Maz suggested nuts and thankfully he eats them. I am happy to announce yesterday he ate some boiled egg! I was eating one while he was free roaming and he came to check what I had got. I gave him a piece of the egg white and he ate it today I will try cottage cheese.
He still won’t eat any other veggies or fruit other than: broccoli, cauliflower peas and apple.
He weighs 170 grams but he doesn’t seem to have much fat on him. He is full of muscles and when I stroke him (he likes being stroked over his back) he feels hard to touch, only towards the back end he feels softer. Should he gain more weight? Other hamsters seem to look more chubby, or is that because of the fur? His coat is very short and very soft, it’s like stroking velvet. I do hope he eats enough as he really is a fussy eater

Socks used to enjoy a small piece of mature cheddar cheese I think peas have some protein in them I think it is good to be muscular, muscle tissue helps to keep the heart healthy

I hope he gets enough protein. I tried cheese he was disgusted
He’s got so much energy I guess that’s why he’s got less fat. But I always presumed that hamsters need fat.
I googled how much they should weigh, it seems he is okay with 170 grams, I will check regularly

They ac is being delivered on Thursday (Amazon wrote) and lo and behold: the heatwave that was supposed to be starting next weekend has been cancelled we will being having 20 degrees max and one day 26

It’s lovely and fresh here today, first nights sleep in ages.
Nibbles was very lively he had 2,5 hours in the playpen racing on his wheel. Then is 1 braincell decided he didn’t know what a hamster taxi is and could only remember the open panel escape of the playpen, I gave in and opened it, the rest of his braincells were immediately activated and he whooshed past me shouting freedom, kitchen time. I was very tired in my pjs ready for bed
He raced around the kitchen for an hour ignoring my attempts to persuade him back in the playpen.
Finally he came to me, I gave him a treat and a stroke and carefully picked him up put him in his taxi basket and back in his cage. I then collapsed into a deep sleep without a fan and ice pacjs. Brilliant! Dayie day Nibbles maybe I will be more lively tonight and let you have a longer night out
