Mr Nibbles Diary

I bought some treats today (I had a voucher at Amazon)
Can someone tell me how much of these corn 🌽 on the cob I can give Nibbles (if he doesn’t turn his nose up again 😳)

I had these for my previous hamster Penny( she wouldn't chew anything else ) in the beginning she rejected them, but I just left the whole one in her enclosure. In the end they were bald, she would clear them and leave a little pile of corn on the shelf lol So they Def gave her something to do. I buy the mini corns on Amazon now though

Nibbles has taken a few, but I picked them off cause I wasn’t sure how many they could have. The small ones sound good, I will go and search for them. I bought dried coconut shavings, he loves those. They were very expensive, but they will last for ages 😅

What a fantastic playpen, it's out of this world! No wonder Nibbles likes it. Your an inspiration, it's made me want to get a playpen for Teddy. So pleased to hear that your hand is on the mend ☺️🌸🌺Ness
Thank you 🙏 the playpen was not expensive I think I paid 20 euros on Amazon, but it’s very good quality. Last night I put him in an was able to clean his bed. It was high time as he pees in his nest 🫩 it stank terrible. I also took a few things out of his food storage, which was enormous. I am in disgrace, he was a bit angry. But after sleeping in his fresh bed, I assume he will be friendly again tonight 😅

They are very good value that type! Ideal if you can leave it up permanently.

This is the easy way for me to do a quick check on Nibbles. He’s nails are not to long, tail dry. At first I thought he had something wrapped around his front paw…. But it’s his whiskers 😅 everything seems okay. Temperature not too hot 22 c so now I am off for errands and a walk. Another free day today, my boss said take the opportunity of a long weekend as tomorrow is a bank holiday. This sudden nice behaviour is rather unusual 😅

I love peeking into he nest chamber. They make such sweet, perfectly fitting little nests 🥰 I wonder what Nibbles is dreaming about 😍🏡

Nibbles weighs 155 grams I don’t know if that’s a good weight for his age?

It's a nice average weight :-) How old is he now? He probably has some more growing to do still.

Yes he'll keep growing till at least 6 months. Most are their final weight by 6 months but can grow a little bit more right up to 9 months. He'll probably end up being about 180g which is fairly average for a full grown syrian. But he may be larger - who knows! They can vary in size hugely. 125g isn't abnormal for a fully grown small syrian and I had one that was 270g!

The first bite is the deepest baby I know the first bite it is deepest 🎶🎵
So Nibbles is the wrong name, from now on Jaws 😂 he was in the playpen and digging deep in the corner under the quilt. I thought better have a look, not that he’s chewing his way through. I lifted the corner of the quilt and he lurched forward and bit my thumb drawing blood 🩸 😅 he’s extremely territorial and I don’t think he realised it was me. He looked very sheepish and let go once he noticed who it was.
It didn’t hurt but my he’s teeth are sharp 😂

Nibbles 😯 You bit a food bowl filler (finger), you chomped a kindly treat bringer 🍲 🩹🦈 I'm shocked 🫢 I hope it wasn't your right hand that has gone through so much lately 😟 It might have been some confusion because he couldn't see you and felt cornered. Or was a bit hyped up with excitement about being in the playpen. I hope you feel better. Give the wound a good deep flush with a disinfectant. I think the most painful part is probably being bitten by a friend 💔 They are quite skittish little creatures. I'm sure he didn't mean to be mean ❤️

It was the left thumb so now the hands are equally bashed 😂
Yes I does hurt to think that was not a nibble it was a hard mean bite 😳 I would like to think he didn’t know it was me, but i assume he did. I have noticed that he’s very territorial and also very energetic. He gets bored in the playpen it’s time for the wheel to arrive. He’s been in his wheel now at high speed for 11/2 hours 😳 he’s not frightened of me, I can tell that but he’s also not the friendliest little guy. But I still love him. I may leave him out of the playpen tomorrow night…. See if he is a bit friendlier.

from day one Nibbles never hid away when I am here with him, neither was he afraid of my hand. He took food very early and was never very skittish, but I noticed he scent marked everything in his house daily. I thought he would be very easy to tame. My vet friend contradicted this, he said it’s far easier to tame a hamster when they are first uncertain and frightened. Has anyone had this experience? Vet said I am in for a fun ride with little macho Nibbles 😂 but I won’t give up. Even if it means the occasional bite, at least it’s not as painful as a horse bite. My first pony was a biter. She broke my little finger, it never healed properly and sticks out oddly. I used to dance around whilst grooming her and still got the odd bite in the bum. So Nibbles we will see who will win this one 😂
