Meet my robos

Exciting! She is gorgeous - how old is she? :-) I had to remove the video because it was a link and not an embedded youtube one. Sorry! Was it a video or an image? If an image you can just use the "attach files" button at the bottom of your post :-)
 
This new one is absolutely gorgeous,but @Maz ,we were going to go the adoption route through a rescue. They were given our history and the fact that we have other hammies ,then one of the hoops they asked us to jump through was to send photos of all enclosures . To us we thought this was quite intrusive and surely they would only have to see the enclosure the rescue was going to be adopted into!? Are we being over touchy,or do you also think this intrusive ? I also thought it quite insulting ,considering our history.

That puts a lot of people off and seems to be par for the course for rescues now - some will dictate a bar-less enclosure, a certain depth of bedding, at least 5 hides and sprays. I also didn't like it, having adopted twice before from the same place, to suddenly have to prove all this. I jumped through the hoops but felt annoyed! I think it's too black and white. Understandably they want to check and see a hamster is going to a suitable set up - eg cage big enough and enough enrichment, but to specify such detail is too much IMO.

In two years, between me getting a robo and a Syrian from the same rescue, the criteria had changed a lot! I think there needs to be some flexibility, as long as the cage is large enough. I probably wouldn't rescue from a place that insisted on a bar-less enclosure personally.

So did you end up getting her from somewhere else then?

She's 8-9 weeks maz. I will try the vid again. It was being weird yesterdat

This went a little weird as the thread quoted you twice. At our ages we can't be bothered to jump through the hoops .We have ethical standards ,it should be enough. I wasn't going to get into Robins enclosure being a cage etc as you know yourself ,it is massive. It's the hamsters that lose out in the end. We gave in and saved one from pets @home

Maybe your next should be a little robo then? I do think the pets @ home hammies deserve to get ethical care though. I know people say to 'adopt,don't shop",and most of mine at least have been adopted,but little Miss Marple is going to be spoilt rotten

Well I won't be going through an adoption centre ever again maz. I will go to pets at home adoption in store , but I couldn't get a female robo to adopt , so bought one and she's beautiful. Not seen her today , but she's probably settling in.

I had the same experience here in Germany and in the end, I bought Nibbles from the local pet store. I took the „one no one wanted“ and I haven’t regretted it 😍🫶

I had been looking for a robo when I got Higgins :-) And couldn't find one - so hard in my area. Even pets at home stores within 70 miles don't have an adoption centre! In hindsight I might as well have adopted one from London and got the train - probably quicker than some other places 60 miles away. But just nothing to adopt. Then an NHC breeder in my area had a litter of Syrians ........ I had always said I would never have two syrians at the same time again, but at the time, Tino had been invisible for many weeks. Of course as soon as I got Higgins, Tino appeared and wanted to be out all the time! I still think it's quite intensive having two Syrians at the same time. A Syrian and a Robo works well for me :-) Different habits at different times and double the joy!

I'm so sorry you had that experience - I think there needs to be a bit more flexibility - especially with experienced owners.
