May's thread- a week in the life with 10 pets and 3 children πŸ₯°

Next it was time for Sally's evening medication and for Sally and Addy to get their adoption day present 🎁 happy one year with us girlie's 😍 we are forever blessed to be your forever family and are so very proud of how much your confidence has grown πŸ₯Ί Sally in particular has been a warrior with all her arthritis treatment (they are around 4.5) she has meds twice a day, laser therapy monthly now after her initial intensive course and she also had a course of cartrophen injections which she didn't like too much but was so brave and is definitely feeling the benefits now πŸ’–20240513_211639.jpg20240513_212137.jpg

Lots of lovely things and photos today! That walk looks really lovely - great for children (and just being in the outdoors). Gorgeous photos of your piggies - they look happy having the treats 😊.

And luscious cake! That is making me hungry! I hope you had a lovely birthday yesterday.

Day 2!

Now the children are off to school we are starting off with morning medications:
Metacam 0.18ml twice a day for vanilla and smores and 0.2 twice a day for Sally. Apoquel once a day for Effie and eye drops twice a day for callie.
Effie has to have hers crushed in goat milk because she's a fussy cat and milk is also one of the only things she isn't allergic too.

You must have to be very organised to achieve all the medicating each day :)

It is probably the hardest thing to juggle, especially on my work days with 12 hour night shifts and 2+hours commuting time. I have previously had multiple animals on multiple medications and that is when it gets really hard as sometimes they had 5+ a day to take for just one animal. We're doing some housework atm but I have more planned for later πŸ˜‰

The next thing I wanted to talk about on the subject of medication is mental health. It is mental health awareness week and I have struggled with my mental health for as long as I can remember and these help me to function and survive each day. It took years for me to accept medication as it was never something I wanted but I'm so glad i accepted the help and started them 1.5years ago as while they aren't a miracle cure they have certainly helped πŸ’ž20240514_151946.jpg

Other things that help with my mental health (though certainly test it at times) are my children and my animals πŸ’“ going on walks also helps!

Edit: admin if this is a not okay topic to post about please delete it πŸ’–

I’m glad you have things that help πŸ«‚. I didn’t know it was mental health awareness week but I do now.

I forgot to take pics but I cooked a lovely roast dinner consisting of roast beef, mash, roast carrots and parsnips, kale and broccoli πŸ₯¦ πŸ˜‹ it was delicious and I've saved Teddy a teeny bit of beef! Hoping he comes out for it 🀣 he tends to hide more whenever I do a week in the life 🀣🀣 its like he's supposed to be the star of the show but some fur baby else always steals his spotlight 😳🀣

Ooh you’re making me hungry! Another lovely walk. I’m sure others will catch up with your day soon πŸ˜€

Excellent news on the blood tests. What a relief for you.
Loving the photos of your family walks. Very good fun for you all.

Rainbow bridge pets- babybelle πŸ’ž

I had a look through the last week I did and it looks like I never got round to babybelle πŸ’• we nicknamed babybelle my queen or queen of the house because she was the boss πŸ˜‚
Babybelle was in the exact rescue kennel that onslow was in and it just felt meant to be. She was 14 when we adopted her and she had been found straying and in bad state after previously been adopted as a young girl. They could not contact the previous owners as details were not updated and it seemed she had been straying a while.
So she came home with us! She came complete with ear mites and clostridium (which we were aware she had itchy ears but wasnt aware of the mites or clostridium until we visited the vet as she had explosive pink diahhrea). We later found out she had allergies and she went on to develop chronic pancreatitis, struvite crystals, e coli in her urinary tract and arthritis.
She was such a mummy's girl and my little bestie, she loved to sleep on my pillow or be tucked into bed with one of us. We had to let her go exactly 23 months after adoption as we just couldn't manage all of her issues together. The urinary food flared her pancreatitis and allergies and left her in severe pain and passing large amounts of blood in her stool. Without the urinary food she was at risk of blockage from the crystals and would pee large clots of blood. We tried all sorts, including opoids to manage her pain but unfortunately they made her so out of it on a low dose that she couldn't even eat or drink or use the litter tray. Unfortunately no option gave her the quality of life she deserved and she was utterly traumatised at the thought of being medicated! She started to hide almost constantly it was heartbreaking πŸ’” when we'd had the conversation with the vet I sat with her and explained what was going to happen and she started licking my face, rubbing her head against mine and kissing me. I like to think she was saying thankyou πŸ’“
I have her nose print tattoo'd on my chest so she's always with me πŸ’ž
