May's thread- a week in the

Day 1!

Starting this one a bit different as… it's my birthday πŸŽ‚ πŸ˜‚

So here's a pic of me my mum sent me of when I was born (prematurely) and when i came out of hospital, can anyone guess how much I weighed and how many weeks I was? Clue: my youngest was born at the same gestation πŸ˜†

This week will follow my 3 daughters, my dog callie, my cat effie, my corn snake winter, my tortoise pebble, my 5 guinea pigs Sally, Addy, Vanilla, smores & caramel and of course our wonderful Syrian hamster Teddy 🧸 🀩

Today is also Sally and Addys 1 year adoption day 😍😍 I can't believe these beautiful girls have been with us a year! They have honestly come on so much! Here's a pic from their first day home!

Also today (if there wasn't enough excitement!) Its my eldest daughters first day of her sats tests. shes worked really hard so there will be no studying this week! Plenty of face masks, fun and relaxation! But I'm sure she'd love to read some good luck messages, she is counting the years until she is old enough to join this forum 🀣 πŸ’–

Annnd vanilla and smores are off to the vets for their ovariectomies (laparoscopic spays) and callie is off for her health plan bloods and health check at the vets too! So… it's 4am and I've yet to go to sleep πŸ˜‚ too much excitement lol πŸ˜† I will post some more later πŸ’–

Gosh, your life is a busy one, but full of love! Thank you for the wonderful blog!

Ooh Em what a lovely start to the week :) Happy Birthday! I hope you have a lovely time. I'm guessing Sally and Addie were birthday presents if it's their adoption day as well  You were a very tiny baby. I couldn't even guess at weights and how many weeks as I'm hopeless at things like that! 5lbs maybe?

Wishing lots and lots of luck to your daughter in her Sats πŸ€- I'm sure she'll do very well.

I hope it all goes well at the vet's today and looking forward to your week very much!

Thankyou πŸ’– Sally and Addys adoption date was set by the rescue so it's a total coincidence but extra special all the same πŸ₯° I spent a month in intensive care and was 3lb 4oz, 36 weeks πŸ₯Ί my youngest was also 36 weeks and 7lb 13.5oz πŸ˜† she was only in hospital 36hours and didn't go anywhere near neonatal 🀩

Thankyou for the luck πŸ₯° here she is all ready for her first exam at 8am this morning πŸ˜† why do they grow so fast?

Vanilla and smores are all dropped off for their spays complete with a packed lunch of their fave veggies, I have an amazing vet team so I know there in the best hands 😍 but I am still nervous 🀣 callie has had her health check and bloods and all is good she's just got some eye drops for a bit of conjunctivitis πŸ₯°

Extra good luck today then, for the first day of Sats :) You were teeny tiny as a baby! Hospital must have done a good job! Sounds like you have a lot going on today. Two guinea pigs to look after later as well!

Effie's shadow is great :-)

Happy Birthday Emx93! πŸ’πŸŽ‚ What a week you have coming up
Warmest best wishes for the Sats - time certainly flies by.
Hope all is well at the vets and I hope you got some sleep in the end!

I've just had a 2h nap lol πŸ˜†

Just called the vets and all has gone well, we are picking them up in just over an hour 🀩🀩 I can't wait to give them big cuddles

Glad you got a nap and all went well with the Piggies :)

Good luck with your SATs first step towards seniors πŸ™‚

Aw. They do look sleepy :-) Assume they're on metacam for a few days now.

We've been for a lovely extra long walk this evening (2hours!) The kids have loved it and so has callie 🀩 her reward for being such a good girl for her bloods πŸ’–

I'd love to go on a walk like that. Looks peaceful. And boy I need some peace. My youngest had a major test. ANND I had to bring 24 families through a house for a tour today. (I'm a realter) My husband had to leave for Germany yesterday (he's in the military, and travel is his middle name) I wish I had a trail like that that I could stroll and unwind on!:)

I just realized that my youngest has those same headphones. :)

Sending praceful vibes and good luck to your son πŸ₯° I love that I have walks like this on my doorstep! It's good for the kids and doggy and it's free!

They found this little den in the woods ❀️

And ofc my youngest insists on picking loads of sticky weeds as treats for the guinea pigs, she got excited to pick extra to encourage vanilla and smores to eat after surgery and for Sally and Addys adoption day πŸ’–

Then back to syringe feed vanilla and smores, it's very important to keep plenty of fibre constantly going through a guinea pigs system or their guts can shut down. This is an even bigger risk following surgery when they tend to be sleepy and pain so don't eat enough (or sometimes anything at all) by themselves. Surgery in guinea pigs in general comes with a risk but an laproscopic spay in a young healthy pig is far easier than in an older piggy with massive ovarian cysts (very common in guinea pigs) especially as once the ovaries go wrong it's more likely they'll need a full spay as the womb can also go wrong which is a significantly harder recovery πŸ₯° I'm lucky to have fab vets who do the ovariectomies as not every vet does.
But from a recovery perspective the first 24-48hours they will receive syringe food every 4 hours to keep things moving πŸ₯°

20240513_203024.jpgsmores is being extra good and eating from the bowl too πŸ₯°20240513_203050.jpg
