Reposting for admin as I was messaged.

Date pictures took 18.01.24.

My hammie ‘Ash’ has developed a lump on her back left leg not sure what it is. She’s still eating and running around and playing.

Any advice welcome.

She’s aged 2.

A vet appointment is going to be the best option to ensure she is not in any pain. Ash is so cute. I would try to find an exotic vet as they usually have experience with hamsters.

Thank you for reposting and apologies for accidentally deleting your thread :) It does look quite an enlarged and swollen area under the spot. It's possible it could be a tumour or an abscess. It would be an idea to have a vet check as if it's an abscess she could need antibiotics or it could lead to blood poisoning. If it's a tumour then she may need pain relief meds. She may need pain relief meds anyway as they can have all kinds of pains in old age - toothache, arthritis etc. Is she eating and drinking ok and active in herself?

Is there an exotic vet in your area?

Just to let you know, hamsters tend to hide any signs of pain due to them being a prey animal so although it is wonderful she is eating and drinking, she could still be in pain.

Enjoying her wheel on one pic. xx

I think she's a little Roborovski from the photos - is that right? :) I had one that developed a lump, and at this age, with that size lump, they aren't going to do surgery if it is some kind of tumour, which is quite common when they get older. But they usually do start giving them metacam/loxicom as pain relief, because as Rainbow says they do hide pain very well. Does it feel hot at all like an abscess?

It would be a good idea to get a vet check and some meds prescribed. Does she seem to scratch or bite at it all? Or avoid doing certain things?

This is a separate thing but I was just checking, does Ash have an upright wheel? I know pet shops will tell us a flying saucer can be used instead of a wheel but an upright wheel is best. :)

Sorry to hear Ash has a lump. I think the best thing to do is arrange a vets appt to have her checked. It’s good to hear she’s still going about all her day to day hamstering habits.

Her upright wheel broke two weeks after getting cage. She’s had flying saucer for year and ten months. She’s going about daily business no biting or scratching from what I’ve seen.

Yes she is a Roborovski.

I’ve just cleaned all her cage nice and fresh deep bedding left some at back for her from old bedding. I noticed her chewing log has slight sharp edge it hasn’t had before where been chewing she might’ve caught herself on that so I’ve binned it.
I’ll monitor her and call vet tomorrow.

Picture of her running once cage cleaned. Xxx

Hope you get some help from the vet :) I'm sure they'll help. Her cage is a bit on the small side though. Although robos are small they are very active and still need a lot of space. I bet she likes that coconut hut though :)

Yes I’m aware of sizing But to be honest she’s always seemed to enjoy it and I mix up different toys activities logs chews etc …
Her food is only on the floor as the hole for her food at top is chewed and bowl falls thru haha

I get her out too lots so she gets lots of exercise.

Xx

Better picture of size. X

I'm sure she'll enjoy lots of out of cage time :) Is she tame then? I'm not sure I know that particular cage. Is it the Fop Tamburino? It could be good to add more bedding so she can dig some tunnels :)

She will go on my hand a little but then runs off. She enjoys running around in an area on the floor I block off.

R u from the UK?
It’s a cage from the UK.

Yes I didn't realise you were in the Uk :-) The recommended cage sizes now are 100cm x 50cm. It used to be 80cm x 50cm and anything smaller than 80cm x 50cm really is too small unfortunately. You can often get second hand hamster heavens very cheap (80 x 50) which would be an improvement. Some people use the large Zoozones as well (which is a similar tank style perspex cage) but the lid needs meshing on those.

I’m surprised to hear you say upright one is better as I’ve always read online watched videos and also my own experience is that the flying saucer ones are often more recommended.
