She's in the hamster room with the three boys this morning while i got my drill out to sort the lid of her new cage. She's in her bin cage of course.

That's the grosvenor lid sorted.
The lid comes in two parts joined by clips but lifted up at the sides enough for a hamster to get out.
The intended way for it to open is to push the front section back but it can also get folded over.
I drilled 8 small holes and secured the back section with cable ties then added a couple of cable ties to act like additional clips.
Easy enough to do but needs an electric drill and cable ties. Here are photos to show what i'm on about.

If i ever want to open the whole top i can snap and replace the cable ties but half an open lid gives plenty of access to get Lilly out in her taxi and to do what i need to do.

No. The clips to join the pieces together come with the cage. The intended way of opening it is concertina style.

Only the wire part of the lid opens unlike the smaller grosvenor where the whole lid including the frame opens up.

I adjusted the way it opens by folding the front part backwards onto the back part which could have been done anyway.
By securing the back part to the frame i now no longer have the option of the concertina way of opening it but have stopped the wire part from lifting up enough to allow a hamster to escape.

So would you say unless you've got a drill and are good at DIY not to bother with that cage?

I know the issue with the Criceti is that bars on top have a gap at the side and a hamster could push them up and escape. I believe putting something on top at each side would sort that (eg a book). Beryl will know if that's possible with the Grosvenor cage.

No, as long as you have access to a drill you can sort it. There's no diy skill needed to drill a hole.I wonder how many hamsters have escaped from that cage

You've done a great job Beryl.
Aside from that i quite like the cage for a dwarf hamster. It's a good size, too low for my liking but i find the Plaza too high for a dwarf and there's nothing inbetween.

Lilly saw the vet and she's happy with Lilly's progress. Vet told me that she had been looking forward and dreading the appointment at the same time because with animals that small things can go either way.
Lilly's wound is starting to form a scab which is good and there's no sign of inflammation.
Vet only found fatty tissue around the growth but no other growths. It isn't possible to say if the mass was benign or malignant and i'm not going to have a biopsy done as it wouldn't change the outcome.
The lump had to go because it affected Lilly's life and gave her pain so surgery was the only option to help her.
All i can do now is hope for the best and give her a good life.
She'll see the vet for a final check up in a week and then she can go back to wheels, sand, free roaming and the likes.
10 days post op is the estimated time to complete the healing process.

I bought plastikote off ebay to paint the shelf tonight and they sent me a tin of interior wood paint!
That's me done now with online shopping. I bought a few tubs of plastikote from the local hardware store but fancied a different colour so bought one off ebay. Bad idea.
