No sign of Lilly when i tidied around her wheels but as soon as there was new food in the bowl she surfaced.
Never one to miss out, Lilly checked that I wasn't holding any treats before diving down to her hoard. I can hear her scuttling about below substrate now.

I bet she was looking for my feet to nibble but they are safely on the futon.

Lilly looks lots of fun, so inquisitive, she’s gorgeous 😊.

I just love all the hamster videos, watching them all potter about.

She really is a bundle of energy! Looks like she has a real think about your feet too! She spent a while in that sandal!

Hmm, i need to look into upgrading Lilly. The Hamster Heaven doesn't work for her. It's too small.

Aww, she sounds so active. Do you think a second hand tank may be an option for her?

If only the Elmo cage was still available! It's a 100cm cage but the same height as the Hamster Heaven - it doesn't ship from Germany any more though. And only has small doors at the front (although has a big one on top). It's basically a lower Barney cage. Maybe you could look out for a second hand exo terra terrarium (90 x 45). Although it's not that much bigger really.

Or a large zoozone? You can get those at a reasonable price second hand. Better size than the exo terra :)

I'm thinking of a detolf on wheels to go on the floor under Clive's table but need to measure to see if it would fit.

She needs a large sand area for her wheels on one side and a deep burrowing area on the other side with an activity area in the middle.

It's just a thought at the moment but i can't think of another cage that would suit her needs.

That sounds like a great idea and you are fantastic at DIY too so you will not have any problems creating one.

A detolf would just about fit into the space but i'm not sure how it would work with top access under a table. Transport is the other problem because it wouldn't fit into our small cars. I'd need to wait till my OH's VW camper is back on the road in the spring.

I think connecting two bin cages may be a solution for now. On dolley trolleys and one with a front door. The other with a meshed lid and high up vents only. The issue with that is that i'd need to protect freeroaming hamsters from Lilly who gets jealous when she's not out. Maybe install a flap for the door and make removable panels for the other two wire parts.

Or get a duna maxi but wonder if that would be too wide for the space and need to measure again.

Problem is that she jams her wheels because the HH is too low for a platform and she wants her saucer as well which she almost buries.
She climbs the bars when she has to wait her turn to freeroam and drops down. There's plenty of substrate and she's very well upholstered but she could fall awkwardly at any time.

Could you get a detolf delivered so you would not have to collect it yourself?

Top access under a table could be a problem, yes. Is your Savic Plaza in use? I'm guessing it is. But also it sounds like you want something solid sided. Yes if she's climbing the bars she might fall. It's hard to find any tank style cages with a front opening door though. The idea of two bin cages with a front door sounds ok. Could the Plaza go under the table instead, so you could have something like a maxi duna on top of the table? I got a console table thing especially for fitting two Plaza cages - one on top, one on the shelf underneath. The underneath one only works because it has a front opening door and there's quite a bit of space between the bottom cage and the top - but not enough to fully open a top door.

When I had the Barney and one plaza, the Barney had to go on top for that reason.

Yes, i can have a detolf delivered for £40 and the detolf itself is £75. Detolfs are frequently for sale in the small ads for a lot less than that so it doesn't make sense to spend £115 when i can get one for £30.

Clive lives in the Plaza on top of the table. I don't like to have a barred cage on the floor on a dolley trolley because the freeroaming hamster tries to use it as a climbing frame which must be annoying for the hamster inside it. Also, we use the top door of the Plaza more than the front door.

I wouldn't want to move Clive because he's not as robust mentally as Lilly.
Clive is wonderfully calm now for Clive standards, his fur has grown back and he seems happy where he is.
