My old Syrian Kebab died today. He was 2 years and 9 months old and did amazingly well until quite recently but last night when I checked on him it was clear he wasn't going be here much longer. He fought hard but he finally died just before 7am.

I adopted Kebab when he was 2 years old because his owners were emigrating. Before that I used to board him when his owners were on holiday. This photo is from one of his holidays with me, when he was about a year old:

And this photo (which recently featured in the forum advent calendar) was taken shortly after he came to live with me permanently:

I always find I have mixed feelings when a pet dies at a very good age. It's always sad to lose them, but there's also a kind of satisfaction at a long life well lived and a pet who is now free from the effects of frailty and old age. Goodbye Kebab...

I am so sorry you lost precious Kebab. You gave him the perfect retirement home and he had a happy life with you.

Rest in peace Kebab.

I’m so sorry to hear that Kebab has gone to the bridge, it is always so sad & hard to lose them but he lived to such a good age & had a great life with you, lovely photos to remember him by.
Run free & play well at the bridge Kebab 🌈❤️

He was such an amazing age Daisy. He was lucky he had someone familiar to live with in his old age. I had grown rather fond of him just seeing that photo :) .

I understand that mixed feeling when he was so very old. Sometimes as well it is the body protecting you from further grief when you’ve just had some.

He’s playing free now. Farewell little Kebab 🌈

Play well at the rainbow bridge little Kebab.

I understand this mixed feeling as well. This mixture of sadness and satisfaction with the sadness surfacing at unexpected times.

So sorry that Kebab has gone to the bridge. You gave him a loving home for the last months of his life. A retirement home was a good description except that he knew you already.
RIP Kebab
