Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

Glad she enjoyed that :-) I think most hamsters seem to like a bit of banana. Although there will be some exceptions! I used to give the odd bit of fresh banana but it goes brown really quickly - not that that seems to bother them. I've tried mashed banana to put meds in instead of baby food before but it does go brown quickly!

I got Jas a ceramic hide for the hot weather. Do you think I should put it in her playpen first? Also where do you put the ceramic hides, it's a bit heavier, but I don't want it to fall off anything?

It's a nice idea to put it in the playpen first, so it's familiar when it goes in the cage. It's a very nice hide! It looks like a cloud :) I think I've seen them somewhere but can't remember where.

I put ceramic hides on a shelf. The alternative is have a platform under the substrate and stand it on that (a hamster house sometimes works as a subterranean platform.

Need to work out how to find some space🙂
I was wondering if I needed to attach it to the cage somehow? Or should it be okay? Just thinking about my little climber, that's how I think it could be moved.

If it's in the corner of shelf it should be fine. Could you swap out that blue house on the shelf for it?

Strangely enough that is what I was thinking. She has a carrot chew next to it and uses it as a step to climb onto the blue hide, but she isn't really using it much as a store now, so could take out the chew and add the new hide 🙂

And I have to say, you have a great memory👍

Or maybe move the blue hide down to substrate level? Is it's quite light so could sit on the substrate.

Funnily enough I am known for having a memory like an elephant for small details but am hopeless at remembering dates and important things!

Do we think maybe she has lost something? That's not normally where all the bedding is?DSC_0771.JPG

Sometimes it's difficult to work out what the motivation is! Maybe it's the heat, maybe she lost something, maybe she was digging and it all appeared behind her!

I have a shelf fixed into one corner with a ceramic oil burner as a hide it's pushed right into the corner of the shelf seems very stable and Pete being a dwarf can't or hasn't attempted to move it

The new hide is in the playpen, but she seems to like it, she's built a nest in it. She's been a bit off, the last couple of days, so when she seems back to normal, I'm going to add it to her cage. She tried tomato tonight, she seemed to like that as well. She struggled to hold the little piece, but wouldn't let me hold so she could eat it and ran off with it🙂

Aw that's nice. She clearly likes it if she's built a nest in it. Do you think the heat has been affecting her?

Not sure, it seems to have been, as it has gotten cooler. She hasn't been running on her wheel at night and isn't drinking much, but still comes out for playtime. Checked her and she is happy to be stroked, checked her weight too, no change. Maybe just having a couple of lazy days.

I've been keeping an eye on Jas and she seems back to normal, lots of running, still isn't drinking as much as she used to, but she is drinking. Also, she's decided to build her burrow under the MCH. Don't know why, I haven't changed anything, maybe it's cooler? She's added her own entrance as a burrow on the other side to the door, but she exits out of the door 😃
