Just a little update while I'm here. So Jas, as always can't decide whether she is happy with the play pen or not at the moment. Yesterday she had a good game of climbing on a house, so when I offered my hand, she got on it to try to climb my arm, to get out. She did it a few times and seemed really sociable, so when she started to chew the pen corner, I got brave and tried to pick her up, got a chattering teeth warning. Seems like interaction is still only on her terms 🙂. I do think also that she squeaks when she is in heat, not all the time, but she's done it a couple of times, it could just be a coincidence though.
 
It's all good observation working out what happens when :-) While you get to know her. I think it's fairly common they don't like being picked up while trying to chew out of the playpen :-) That's when Raffy used to bite when I first got him. It does sound like it's all a bit of a game for her though and maybe more to do in the playpen than free roaming. Do you have a wheel or saucer in the playpen?
 
There's a saucer in the playpen, because there is more room and she seems to like it. She has a few hides, tunnels, a digging box and multiple chews. It mostly just depends on what mood she is in on a certain day.
 
Ah yes - her moods will vary as they all do. Raffy used to spend most of his time on the saucer in the playpen. It was the thing that stopped him trying to escape the playpen. But they will vary.
 
I have observed female Syrians squeaking when in heat. I had a foster Syrian, Dolores, who run around the room squeaking. I think they were mating calls.
 
Hi all, Jas was having a bit of a chew day a few days ago, so I purchased some items from Esty, not used them before. Do they all seem okay? Shall I freeze them all now?

They look as though they should all be ok to me, probably best to freeze them to be on the safe side & I would check through the hay & anything else that might have sharp pokey bits, looks like a good haul there!
 
Thank you. I have to say, I'm impressed, it wasn't very expensive, so when it came I was pleasantly surprised.
 
I would definitely freeze anything with hay and dried herbs like forage mixes.

Jas seems more and more comfortable with us, and she tries to climb us quite a bit. She's sitting for longer in our hands and stays for strokes or climbs across both hands for a bit of fun. Getting her out of her cage has become a little tricky now, as we had a routine, however her confidence now means she just climbs over my arm, to get to freedom, she can't do that, the cage is too high. I can't trust that she will stay in my hand long enough to transfer to a travel box, but she doesn't have time to wait for the taxi, maybe some of the new things will help distract her.
 
What a lovely update. Jas has settled in so well. You have worked really hard to try to make her happy and I think this shows she appreciates that. :)
 
Lovely to hear how well Jas is doing now, you’ve got a great bond going there.
It can be tricky when they’re that keen to get out, I had a Chinese like that & it was a real juggling act trying to open the door & catch her at the same time!

If you have any tips, I would appreciate it. I can imagine with such a little one, that must have been hard
 
That's where a large top door comes in handy to go with a large front door.

Put a large tube in through the top door, wait for hamster to walk in and upright tube so hamster sits at the bottom and then get hamster out safely through the front door.
 
I don’t really have any tips to offer Hank, it was just a matter of being very quick! Beryl’s idea of using the top door like that is a really good one though.
 
I don't think the cage has a top door :) That is a fantastic treat box you have for her and it all sounds to be going really well. She sounds a bundle of energy still!

I have the same cage and also have a hamster who tries to climb the door as soon as it's opened! I keep a rat tube on top of the cage, and have it ready in my hand as soon as I open the door and offer the tube and he usually walks straight into it.
 
Oh, sorry. I couldn't remember what cage Jas lives in. Thought it was a HH.

It was, but I changed it to the Plaza. No worries, I just interpreted it, distract at top and sneak taxi in front🙂
