Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

I was thinking cardboard with a towel or something, just wasn't sure on the material, so I'll go with the cardboard and fleece blanket😀

I used to use an old cotton duvet cover (sheet or similar) it’s not as chewable as fleece & seemed to work ok but Syrians might be different.

Wondeful cardboard ha ha. The things we can do with it for hamsters. I have a "hamster" fleece blanket I sometimes use for various things - they do seem to like snuggling up in it - but you do have to watch for chewing. I've never had one chew a fleece blanket while out of the cage - but did have one chew a hole in it through the top of a pet carrier! It doesn't matter if blankets get holes in, it's just the risk of them ingesting fabric. Duvet cover is an idea too - maybe easier to get flat. I don't have enough of those to use one for a hamster!

I use a fleece blanket, cheap one from Ikea which is just the right size.

Loved the pick n fly!

Aw she looks to be enjoying that :) . I uploaded your photo for you. I noticed with the postimages link, you can download the photo and then upload it on here (I think?). If that's possible it would be appreciated to use the upload feature. This is for people generally - or it can make posts hard to edit if necessary for moderation at some point.

Just seeing if the attached image is working. This was fun in the disc a bit earlier😀

Just tried to upload one, I think that's worked?

She is gorgeous! She's quite a big hamster isn't she?! By the look of it. Do you know what she weighs? I bet she's enjoying the saucer. I find they can be slow to get the hang of it but once they do they love it.

Yes it worked! Thank you.

She did take a little while to get the hang of the saucer, but now she has impressive speed.
I weighed her a couple of weeks ago and she is 158, which I thought might be a little low. I will try to weigh her again and see if it's changed.

Clever girl. 158g is about average and she may be still growing. If she's still very young it may not be that low.

Just checked and she is 160, is that about right? She's about 4.5 months now

That is a healthy average weight generally - some hamsters are smaller than that. But she probably still has some growing to do so I expect she'll gain weight and size over the next few months. They can reach full adult weight by 6 months. Technically they are adult size by about 3 months but can keep growing at a slower rate until about 6 months.

Sorry just edited that above. Unlikely to grow much more after 6 months :). I've usually found they keep growing at a slow rate until at least 6 months and sometimes through thriving as well.

She's gorgeous. The Hamster Forum is dangerous. The more I look at everyone's beautiful hammies the more I think caring for one isn't enough!

Yeah, i still wonder how i ended up with six.

Tried the new playpen this weekend, she didn't really care for the blanket, we ended up taking it out. Which does result it hearing tiny footsteps, very sweet. Need to try something else, maybe the cotton sheet, as there are tiny gaps, which she finds very interesting.
