Dusty's Mom

I saw a video of a little hamster in a standard ice cream cone, not the sugar cones, munching away on the edge of it. Are those safe for them to chew on and eat?

Were they human ice cream cones or hamster ones? Rosewood make one for hamsters :)

If they were human ice cream cones then the wafer type ones probably wouldn't do any harm, but too much sweet stuff isn't good for hamsters - and definitely not good for dwarf hamsters.

They wouldn't be unsafe. Not the healthiest thing for them to eat, but not the worst either (in moderation).

There are some pet shop treats out there with more sugar than an ice cream cone :)

It was a regular human ice cream cone. I thought it was odd but they used it to handle the hamster. The hamster sat in the cone nibbling as they carried it.

Thanks. And I agree. I wouldn't just put a cone in a cage for them to eat the whole thing. But like I mentioned in my reply to Maz, they were using it as a way to move the hamster. Letting it be 'distracted' by eating the edge of the cone, seems the hamster could easily jump out though. I was just wondering.

I think a hamster would easily jump from something like that so it doesn't sound very safe! Sometimes on these videos of hamsters, people do all sorts.
