So you paid half the listed price then? That makes it sound more reasonable!

It was half price as an Amazon return so not crazy expensive and I like the straight sides and large front opening. Also access from the top is really good too
Yes the design is really good and good access. It’s similar to the Bucatstate one but this one is partly glass.

It all makes sense now about the size. It's not the first time I've seen conflicting measurements on Amazon. It happens a lot on all different types of products.

I'm looking forward to meeting your new hamster friend 😊

I bet you’re excited about getting the hamster now :-).

I completely missed the 30x30x30cm🤪 sorry about that.

It was Ā£120 on Amazon Warehouse as it had some misaligned pre-drilled holes in the perspex but it’s fine and secure.

It was cheaper than the bucatstate one and also at the time that one had pretty bad reviews, saying that, I’ve just noticed that they’re selling a new improved version and it’s already getting better reviews. It’s Ā£180 though.

We had a rescue hybrid dwarf 10 years ago and he was very sweet and I’ve always wanted another one.

That was a good deal then :) So you know the ropes already if you’ve had a dwarf hamster before. Interesting that there is an improved version of the Bucatstate. Does it say ā€œnewā€ on it?

Not your fault - the listing was confusing with the wrong dimensions at the top. It became clear further down with the diagram.

Do you know when you'll be getting the hamster?

Hi and welcome to the forum, look forward to hearing all about your new set up and your new hamster friend when he/she arrives. šŸ™‚

It looks like they’ve changed the way the door opens on the Bucatstate one so they’ve deleted all the old reviews and there’s now two reviews from this month that are very positive.

I’m focusing on kitting out the cage first and really like the look of Happy Henry’s Homes for platforms and houses. I found the link on here so I really appreciate that especially now that Zooplus has such limited choice now.

Yes it's good there are all these alternatives. Zooplus hardly ship anything to the Uk any more. Rodipet and Getzoo still ship to the Uk though :) the Happy Henry Homes platforms etc are good - it was RainbowBrite who first recommended them. I have one. You can choose what length you want the legs as well - so they sit above deeper substrate. I've also got some from Getzoo and theirs are good too.

Another places that sells a lot of good hamster stuff is Hopes Healthy Treats. Have you decided on a wheel?

I had a quick look at those other websites and they have such lovely stuff!
Iā€˜ve been looking at the Niteangel transparent 10ā€ silent wheel.
Ive been trying to work out the maximum height to make the platforms so I can fit in the wheel but also have decent litter depth and it’s making my brain hurt🤪
Having different heights is probably the way to go

It does make your brain hurt. I’m having the same thing right now :). Working out platform heights. The niteangel 10ā€ wheel is a good choice. I think Daisy got one recently.

If it’s this one then the minimum height on the stand is 8.3ā€ (say 8.5ā€). Internal height of the cage is 19.7ā€ (say 19ā€ for wriggle room) - which leaves about 10.5ā€ for a platform (say 25cm tall wheel platform). Except I think the platform legs only come in 21cm or 30cm lengths!

So you’d need 30cm legs and cut 5cm off them. Then there is still room for 25cm of bedding if you want the wheel sitting level with the bedding and the platform at bedding height.

Any other platform could be 30cm tall and a bridge between them maybe?

10ā€ wheel

Niteangel sell a platform especially for their wheels if that is any help. I have the wheel you are thinking of buying although I have not used it yet but it is so smooth to spin.

I meant to say that Rainbowbrite has some experience of setting up a tank with a Niteangel wheel on a platform and might have some tips :)

I have found Niteangel wheels to be brilliant. I really recommend them. :)

Oh amazing! Thank you Maz for working all that out, that’s really helpful. And a great idea to get the biggest size and then I can always cut to fit and get the depth I want. I must admit I’m struggling comparing inches to centimetres on the different websitesšŸ˜µā€šŸ’« with everyone using different measurements…
Thanks very much rainbowbrite, great to hear you like the wheels, the reviews are excellent on Amazon, apart from the price £££s but it sounds like they’ll last.
The gerbils have Trixie wheels that are still going strong 4 years on but I can sometimes hear them running at night even though they’re downstairs. I quite like hearing it but not good when we have visitors

I also get really confused with different measurements. I use google converter to convert everything to a measurement I understand and have a tape measure of a ruler by me.

It is confusing when some quote in inches and some in cm's! I think US is mainly in inches and everything in Uk and Europe is cm. I just go by 10" being about 25cm and 12" being about 30cm.

Yes you would need someone handy with a saw to cut a bit off wood legs! I've had to do that a few times to get things right. Is that an option?

Niteangel being US company you’re right and Google converter really helps.
I’ve been cutting out bits of paper to get the layout rightšŸ¤“šŸ˜„ and it might make sense to have one platform with 21cm legs and the others at 30cm as my diy skills are hopeless…
Thanks for all your help guys but just another question, what do you do about small gaps between the cage sides and platforms?

I find that cutting out bits of paper helps my brain make sense of things too!

Do you mean just a little gap if the platform is up against the side of the cage? If the substate is deep enough to be around the same height then you shouldn’t need anything there.
For slightly bigger gaps you can use things like bendy bridges ( the safe ones with no gaps) or cork bark.
