We are warming her up in the sunlight now, she has gave a hiccup and has very light breathing. We would think she’s dead cause she was cold and stiff but she is a young hamster with no previous signs of illness. Is there anything else to do but warm her up?

How cold is her environment? You could try holding her against you to try to warm her with your body heat. If she becomes conscious enough to lick your finger, you could try to offer her some sugar water. Also gently rubbing her with your fingers may help her circulation. I hope she recovers soon 🙏

We have her in the sub right now, she is loosening but very slowly, we see just like the slightest signs of life like a clench of the eyelid when she’s in the sun or a little tiny heart beat but it’s small

I hope she gets better. If she becomes conscious, she may need fluids via a 1ml syringe. It is always best to get the hamster to a vet for emergency treatment.

Hi. I'm sorry, I've only just seen your post. If you think it could be torpor, there is very helpful information on @Daisy 's article linked below.

I would try increasing her blood sugar - do you have some honey? If not you could make some sugar water. Try giving her the odd drop. From your finger maybe, if you don't have a syringe or dropper.

I am so sorry. Can you describe what happened? Did she just suddenly become unwell or is it that the room got cold?

We think she’s gone now :(, she was out cold the entire time and it was not torqor. I suspect some heart problem. The hiccup might have been a muscle spasm from a dead brain. She was super stiff and after warming her I’m she became limper but no response and we couldn’t feel a heart beat. We put her back into the cage and there’s been no movement and she’s cold again. I kinda guess it is what it is when you get a hamster from petsmart to have a defective heart

Very sad, poor little girl. Run free over the bridge little one 🌈

I'm so sorry. Yes she maybe had a genetic heart defect, but it's so very sad - especially when they're so young. Heartbreaking for you. She is playing free over the rainbow bridge now. x

We were recently displaced by the Eaton fire and our house survived (but none of our neighbors did that’s how close it was) all our planet died so we’re going to put her into the rootball of one of the new planet so she can be a part of the garden

So sad that she has passed in the middle of a generally difficult time. Laying her to rest in the new plant is a lovely idea. I hope everything comes together with your house and garden and there is healing 🙏

That must have been awful - the fires - and ongoing as well. Your new plants are a new start and it seems appropriate that your little hammy is part of that.

Do you think you will get another hamster? There are usually plenty in rescues looking for homes :-) I always think if they've survived up to being in a rescue, then they are healthy. Also rescues get them vet checked and monitor etc.
