I got him about 4 days ago and he is already eating food out of my hand!!! I’ve been working hard on building trust with him. Patience is a key. When I first got him all he did was hiss because he was scared. I’m a litter nervous about his water because it’s still full and I’ve been trying to show him how to drink it. And tips would be helpful

Hello . Don’t worry about him drinking - he will do it instinctively. You don’t really see the water go down much. Does he have a bowl or a bottle? How old is he? They can take a good two weeks to adjust to their new environment so the hiss would be fear and self protection. Just take it slowly - keep talking to him so he gets used to you.

It’s a bottle. I’m not really sure. I am assuming about close to a year because his fur looks like it’s turning white but I could be wrong. I want to take him to the vet soon for a general check up. I know all about the hissing but he actually hasn’t done it at all today. Last night he let me pet him and this morning we hung out for a bit before I put him to sleep. He likes hamster music on YouTube.

Oh ok - so he’s not a baby then. If it’s a bottle, just check it’s letting water out ok by tapping your finger over the spout each day . Do you have a photo of him?

Oh yay ok that’s what I’ve been doing so l will just keep doing that. I do not have a picture yet. I’ve been wanting him to adjust peacefully. I want to get one today! He is a chunky monkey!! He likes red bell pepper and cucumbers. I am going to try and feed him a piece of egg later tonight after he wakes up. Still trying to figure out what he likes.

Congrats on Mortie! If you are concerned about hydration, offer both the bottle and a squat baby food jar full of water. Dig the jar into the litter about halfway and position it near the water bottle. He will prefer one or the other. My hammies all prefer the jars.
