hello everyone 😄

Just a quick question about the adorable photo of your hammy in this month's photo comp :-) Rather than me fill the photo comp thread up! Is it meant to be "waking up" rather than walking up"? :-) If so I can edit it. Also is the fluff showing through his door the kapok type? Sorry to ask but we always check if people are using fluffy bedding as it's quite dangerous. I know in Germany they tend to think the natural kapok is ok as opposed to the synthetic fluffy bedding. It's a debatable point in the Uk but if it's acceptable in Germany then it comes down to individual choice.

Opa yes waking up 😄 it is the kapok bedding. It’s what they advised me to get. It doesn’t get tangled up on the paws

Thank you for warning me about the bedding 🙏 it’s very popular here and i did not hear of any risks. I will take it out and replace it will the soft paper bedding. Is that a better option? I think I can get the niteangel bedding on Amazon. There are so many things to think about.

Yes strips of torn up toilet paper sheets are much better :-) In the Uk we're very wary of anything like that that doesn't dissolve in water if swallowed. But I'm aware they think it's fine in Germany!

I have read about the toilet paper, but was worried about the dust. They do get dusty rather quick

Aw - I've never had any issues with dust from toilet paper :-) Just plain white rolls of toilet paper :-)

I have been advised not to use ripped up toilet paper, it does get dusty after a while.

Oh that's unusual. Most of us have used it for many many years! It's usually slightly better than most paper substrates. Just paper. Although you can actually buy bags of paper strip bedding for nesting.

I will order Niteangel paper bedding although its a bit expensive, but the cheaper ones have bad reviews (chemical smells ect.) Its all very confusing, but at least I had success with the money nuts, and guess what...he ate two mealworms yesterday ;)

Oh he is sooooo.gorgeous
thank you, yes he ist very sweet. its unbelievable how fast he is getting used to me. I am doing everything very slow, I spend ages talking to him and singing in a quiet voice when he´s awake. when I open the door he comes running up to my hand to look for treats, and i stroked him very carefully on his side. he did not run away as he was enjoying a tiny peace of strawberry. he defintely is very interested in me and cleans himself, stretches and watches me. I have only had him for a week today, so I am very happy:)

He is Def becoming used to you if he is stretching in front of you. You are doing a good job, everything at his pace.

thank you 🙏 I am so worried about upsetting him, so I decided the first thing would be to get him used to my voice and scent. I sing Irish songs and he seems to love that (i am not talented but all my animals reacted postive to singing).

Singing and music is great with hamsters :-) It's lovely he's bonding with you :-)

My friend came to visit me today, the one who collected Nibbles with me. We were sitting in the kitchen having a cup of tea and he came out early at 7.00
He was clearly nosy. My friend was so surprised at how he already knows my voice and comes to my hand for a treat. He watched her and listened to her voice very interested, but would not take a treat although he did sniff her hand. We look very alike, she said it’s unbelievable that he can tell the difference. But I was very happy that he didn’t run away from her and was not fearful. I think he’s a brave little guy 😍 and he seems very happy, and that is all that counts 🫶

That’s what I told her, but I said it’s a good sign that he sniffed her finger. She is crazy about Nibbles, unfortunately she can’t have a hamster because she travels a lot. I hope they bond too, that would make her happy
