Hamlet

His breathing has seemed fine. He was 100,% fine. He didn't have an MRI so tumor is just an assumption.

My best friend is a vet (just not local) so I had a long chat about Hamlet after I saw the exotic vet. Her opinion was the same. The antibiotics would have shown some improvement in the first few days had it been an infection. He got totally back to normal about 4/5 days after finishing the course. She said Steroids are magical and they do amazing things for very poorly patients but they are not a cure. Just a mask.

I'm so sorry. I still think that sometimes antibiotics can take about 10 days to really start working if it's a particularly nasty infection. I've seen that myself with a nasty eye infection in a hamster. Or even two weeks, my vet said. Which is why sometimes they continue with them for a bit longer than a week. Hence suggesting another opinion as there's no definite diagnosis.

It sounds like you'll need an emergency vet appointment this week-end .......... If you can't get one with a new exotic vet, then I would ask if you can try antibiotics for longer because he's been doing so well. Really sorry you're having this.

Sorry to hear poor little fellow has taken a turn for the worse. Sending comfort 😔

We've seen an emergency vet. He thinks a tumor is unlikely as he had such a big improvement for two weeks. We've got a 14 day course of a different antibiotic. That said, he suspects it may be something congenital so we might not see an improvement. He seemed to think this was worth trying as one last option.

I hope Hamlet responds to the new antibiotic and can be himself again ❤

That sounds positive. I really hope the antibiotics start to work. It could take at least 10 days for improvement to show. But as your second vet said, it's possible it's something congenital as well. Perhaps his heart. On the other hand it could just be a really nasty infection. Fingers crossed the antibiotics help. 💗 Which antibiotic is it out of interest?

That's a broad spectrum one so should work with all kinds of infections, or difficult ones or ones that might be resistant to baytril - if it is an infection.

That sounds ok - do you think he'll take it from the syringe then?

Hopefully... Just waiting for him to get up for this evenings dose. It's twice a day.
