You & Grommit are doing great!
I think sitting in the playpen with them & letting them climb on you is the best way to get them used to you & to begin handling them.

Aw hello Grommit! Looks like he's getting good care :-) Yes he'll be much happier at home in his own environment.

Aw, how adorable! Grommit is looking much more confident. He is gorgeous.😍

Lovely to see Grommit. He's so handsome 😍
We didnt give him a choice but to sit on my partners hands. We had already tried to scoop him up but he panicked and scuttled off fast. Its going to take time with him. He may never let us hold him. We'll keep trying 🐹

They can be so fast sometimes as well. I think with some Syrians, it's not till they get more mature - about a year old perhaps, that they actually sit for longer :) Keep an eye on how he behaves at different times of the evening though. They can have "fast" times and slower more dopey times when they seem happier to sit for a stroke (or even go to sleep!). With our first Syrian 6pm to 8pm and he'd just shoot off at a rate of knots. Between 8pm and 9pm he would be more chilled (and even went to sleep on my knee under a blanket) and would sit for a stroke occasionally. By 10pm he was in super fast night time mode.

Every night I speak to his cage for about 15 mins, he's very ignorant! I have to out cucumber in the tube and eventually when he goes to get It we lift him out. If I didn't speak to him he wouldn't come untill we clear the room. When hes been out, he goes straight to bed and we dont see him again for the rest of the night. :(

Aww, do not worry. I would say he is still settling in as he is getting used to his new cage. You chatting to him is really good for him. He will be listening and getting used to your voice. It is okay if he does not want to come out every day so do not worry about that.

It does sound like normal settling in behaviour, it takes time for them to get used to everything but his confidence will keep growing.
It’s great that he comes out when you talk to him & just sitting there chatting to them is the first part of bonding with them really & they begin to get more used to you & want to come out more.

I did worry, but when I ask things on the forum everyone reassures me.

That's going to be difficult to see his changes but I'll watch it for him more. 🐹

I think we have all been there :-) And made our mistakes. Hamsters are quite forgiving of our mistakes as well but they do all have different personalities as well, so a lot of it is learning how your own hamster reacts to various things.

I love this forum. Never been in a forum with so many kind people. Everyone is really nice and nobody judges you if you don't get it quite right.
That is so lovely! Nobody can get everything right when they have their first hamster. I still make mistakes myself. I hope you will always feel able to ask anything you wish to on here.

I will, when ever something comes up I think, "I'll ask the forum "
