Gilbert had another tumor

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I last updated you on Gilbert.

Do you remember when Gilbert had a tumor in his ear? Unfortunately, he has now developed small tumors around his scent gland and on his hand.

Yesterday, I had to take him in for another surgery. Thank God, everything went smoothly, and he’s recovering now.

However, this morning, I noticed that his poop was a little softer than usual, and I’m really worried that it could be wet tail.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their hamster after surgery? What should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ❤

Poor little fellow A probiotic like Benebac might help. Your vet might also be able to give you medication for soft stools. I hope Gilbert gets better soon

I am so sorry. Poor little Gilbert. You are doing an amazing job for him. I don't think it'll be wet tail personally, it would be unusual for a dwarf hamster, but something may have upset his stomach a bit - either stress or medication. Just keep an eye on it, and I'd suggest giving him a little tiny bit of scrambled egg as a treat for a few days - I give it on the end of a teaspoon and they just eat it off the teaspoon. It'll be a nice protein treat for him and may help firm things up a bit! As egg is known for that. Soft poop isn't too bad - as long as it's not liquid.

Wishing him a speedy recovery. I hope he doesn't get any more little lumps.

Hi, I've had experience with wet tail in a syrian and soft stools in dwarf hamster but not after surgery. I gave a tiny bit of steamed/boiled rice as well as probiotic and it seemed to help. Is Gilbert on antibiotics? That can affect his tummy

Probiotics is a good idea as well Hamster probiotics can be hard to find these days though. And I'm not sure what's available in Indonesia - it's hard enough finding them in the Uk these days!

hi guys thank you for your wishes and prayer, i texted gilbert's doctor and she immediately recipe antibiotics and disgestive medicine for gilbert. this morning his poo is better, its not as soft as yesterday but still soft because i saw the spot on his cooling pad ceramic, but i didnt see any poo near his tail anymore. ill keep you guys updated

also i noticed he doesnt really into his seedmix anymore and i bought him porridge and he really likes it, these past days he eats porridge a lot idk if it affect soft stools too....
