He's so adorable and fluffy :-) He's come on so well. Yes definitely Christmas things appearing soon. We've already started the Christmas photo competition :-) But nobody has posted as yet. I still haven't sorted my photo for it! Need to get some Christmas things out .........

Today George tried out a blueberry ! 🫐 let’s just say it wasn’t his favourite 😂😂😂

He was contemplating whether to continue

He then proceeded to lick his lips 😅🫐

Then said nope!!!

George is more of a veggie fan! Every fru I have tried with him he isn’t really that big of a fan, he really loves cucumbers the most ! 🥰 Something cute I wanted to share!

Hi guys!

I really wanted to ask for advice because I feel like I am failing this week.

This week, George hasn’t been the happiest judging from the fact that he has been climbing the house and reaching to the wires to get out. I have changed his set up as I felt he could be bored but he still does it. I also let him for a free Roam for an hour these past few days (I can’t do any longer cause of college) and he still went to come out after that. I tried my best to keep him occupied, he has a dig box/sandbox but I don’t see him use it, he liked collecting toilet paper or scatter feed himwhich I give him but after that he wants to get o it. I also made a toilet roll boredom breaker and he still wanted to get out. I tried a lot of things- idk what I am doing wrong- (I was then thinking of maybe making the place he lives in from scratch, he doesn’t burrow by himself he just sleeps on the niteangel chamber hide so maybe that chamber hide defeats his purpose to make a burrow?

I feel also worried as he lost hair on his back again I wanna take him to the vets again, but I don’t know if he is stressed and it worries me a lot as I want the best for him. Does anybody have a suggestion? Maybe I’m missing something ??

Sorry to hear this. He might be just very keen to come out if he'd just got used to free roaming :) Did the behaviour start after you changed his set up or before? Sometimes change makes them a bit frantic. Do you have a photo of the hair loss on his back? That can sometimes be from them squeezing under something - fur rub. Maybe a photo of his current set up as well?

Is he eating and drinking ok and using his wheel? Are his ears up or down?

Thank you so much for the fast reply!

He is using his wheel normally as I hear him at night, he drinks as I see him drink water normally, really like to eat never says no to that 🤣

He is currently in his chamber hideout house so I don’t like to disturb him, but when I get the chance I will send a photo, it’s on his back and on one side.

If changed his enclosure after he was getting bored and kept wanting to go out.

I let him out for a free roam 2-3 times a week for a longer period of time as I have college :’) but I try my best when I can.

This is also his current set up, sorry the carrot house fell over but he seemed to be bored of his last one which is why I changed it but he doesn’t seem happy still. Not sure how he will act tonight :’)

His set up looks lovely :). It might be his just the kind of hamster who wants to be out a lot - Raffy used to want out every single night. If I missed a night he'd be frantic. Changing the cage set up does tend to stress them a bit as well. It's difficult if you're at college and he wants to come out late. Maybe you could do what some families with children do, and get him in a routine of coming out earlier at feeding time. If you feed around 6 or 7pm every night and make a bit of cage noise while doing it, they wake up and always want their veg. They start waking at that time expecting it. I put it on the opposite end of the cage to their nesting area on a separate dish, so they cross the cage to get it, and on the way back you could offer him a tube or taxi. Could you get a playpen maybe that you could leave set up? So he gets out of cage time earlier but isn't hard to get back again (if that's an issue with free roaming?). I think once they start free roaming they like to be out a lot!

The fur loss could be a number of things. I don't think he's very old is he? If it's on one side as well, and there's nothing in his cage that could be causing fur rub (eg nothing with a small entrance hole or no gaps he can squeeze under) then it's possible it's a moult or it could be mites. You'd need to see a vet and ask them to do a skin scraping - they look at the skin cells under a microscope to see if it's mites.
