Cedric is around 6 months old and lived in a Pico cage with another Syrian hamster, a female who is now in a rescue on pregnancy watch.

Here's his background story:
Cedric belonged to someone who went on a long trip and left him in the care of a relative. Cedric escaped and could not be found. His owner got upset so relative went out and bought another hamster. Soon after Cedric reappeared inside the bread drawer but his owner did not want him back. The relative put him in the same cage as the new female hamster but was worried about babies. With cats and a dog in the house she could not keep the hamsters and advertised them in the small ads.

Cedric currently lives in the Alaska cage and loves his wheel. I am planning to upgrade his cage and improve his set up once i get to know him and have an idea of what he does and likes.

Thank goodness you found Cedric and rescued him from a terrible life. He is a beautiful boy and he is going to flourish in your care.

Cedric is lucky to have you. He looks so cute

Hello Cedric, you really have fallen on all 4 paws moving in with Beryl. You will be loved and cared for now. You look very cute on your wheel. 💕

He's gorgeous. I think you should rename this thread - the adventures of Cedric - as it sounds like he's had a few! He has a bit of a Raffy-like look about him! Lovely he's come to you.

Cedric is a monkey. He climbs, monkey bars and seems to have a lot of built up energy so i let him out to freeroam.
He's currently racing around on the floor. Just as well he's white which makes it easier for me to keep an eye on him. Not sure yet how to catch him.

Is he white? I thought he looked cream coloured. I hope you manage to catch him ok! A tube with food in might do it! He may stop climbing and monkey barring once he's settled in a bit. It's been a big change for him - even though a change for the better. I wonder if he misses his girlfriend at all.

Really glad Cedric has found a lovely home with you, he does sound like the adventurous type! He must be excited by all the new things in his life now.

Cedric kept coming to his door and asked to come out last night. I was going to wait until he settles in but some hamsters skip that and settle in instantly. It's like, yep that will do me.

After i brought him home he had a good look and sniff around his cage. He then picked up his whimzee and took it to his house, pouched some food and strips of paper and went to sleep inside his house until evening.

I don't know if he misses Penny and was puzzled that they looked so cozy inside their house and didn't fight. I suppose it was lucky under the circumstances that they were male and female even though they but may have mated. A same sex pair of adult Syrians could have killed each other. I have no understanding of the dynamics between adult Syrians and don't ever want to find out either.

It sounds like he’s made himself right at home straight away & is settling in really well already.
He’s probably too excited by everything to miss Penny, it must be a bit strange for him but I doubt it would bother him for long if at all being without her.
It is a good thing they were a same sex pair in the sense of not fighting & being injured or worse, at least Penny is in good hands now too & if she’s pregnant will get the care she & her pups need.

It sounds like Cedric has made himself at home already. Perhaps he's happy to be young, free and single again 😆

I think male hamsters are happy to cosy up and stay with the female and mate as often as they like. It's the females who attack and drive the male out of the burrow usually. How long had they been in together?

Between 1-2 weeks i was told.

He is very sweet Beryl 🥰. I like his one little dark ear.
Funny thing is when i sent a video of Cedric to a rescue friend and told her that he's staying she replied: I knew that before you told me. He's your type of boy.

In the ad he looked a bit odd with a rat face, small eyes and funny ears. I then asked the woman who was the male hoping it would be the goofy white one and not the beautiful longhaired one.

I've always had a peculiar taste in male beauty.

Aw he's sweet - he does look quite maverick though. I could also almost tell by the way you wrote about him, that you wanted to keep him! It's amazing there weren't fights in that 1 to 2 weeks.
