Droppie

I think it might be a cool place, but it isn't very hot at the moment, and when it was hot, she slept in her house with bedding.

I think Droppie does not like the paper bedding she has.
Her tank has a part with 20cm deep paper bedding (Uber), she also has her houses there, and a part with Back2nature paper pellets.
She always sleeps in a corner in the paper pellets, makes a nest with some toilet paper and paper sizzle and she is happy with it.
At the breeder she was used to savings, bit i am not a fan and think paper bedding is healthier for her.
But what if she doesn't like it, should i try other bedding?she also doesn't dig in the paper bedding.

That's interesting. I wonder if hemp could be an option 🏡

Only hemp? that isn't suitable for digging tunnels, on the other hand, she doesn't seem to dig at all.

I have used this in the past and realy liked it, but this also is not suitable for digging, but it is dustfree and very soft, maybe i try this (or hemp) next time)

what about this brand? i am not sure if this is safe (phenols)?

The Millamore sounds very nice. The quality of hemp can vary quite a bit. If Droppie likes it, that is the most important thing ♥️🐾 I hope you can find a good bedding 🙏♥️

Her enclosure looks lovely :-) Is it all paper right now? I would leave it as it is. I am sure she likes the paper bedding. I am wondering if it's the divider. She might see it as two separate cages in a way and is doing what hamsters sometimes do - which is sleep near her beloved wheel! So she is sleeping in the end with the lower bedding, hence not digging. However not all of them dig anyway. So I think what I would try is

2) Pop a good sized house over the corner where she is sleeping - doesn't have to be a huge multiroom house, maybe a largeish carrot cottage or cardboard house then you don't have to worry about stilts, which would disturb her when she's sleeping. If she starts making a proper home in the house you could replace it later with say a two room one on stilts when she's not actually in it.

When you pop the house over the area she is sleeping, you could also put a pile of torn up strips of plain white toilet next to it, and she'll probably take some/pouch some and put in the house.

I'm sure she'd appreciate a nice cosy hide in that corner :-) Then if you like the hemp and have used it before, maybe just put a small amount in a dig box and see if she enjoys it.

But I wouldn't change all the bedding as that's more likely to stress her out. I am sure she enjoys and uses the entire tank at night and has just decided to sleep near the wheel! I am curious as to what the large moss covered item is on the right at the back (with the dish on top) - it's hard to see with reflections :-)

Do you have a nightcam to see what she gets up to at night? Also which Amazon do you normally buy from? Uk or .de or .nl? I've set up our affiliate links to cover .de as well now if you need to link anything that's only in stock there. I'll set up Amazon.nl as well but I believe it's a bit newer isn't it so maybe doesn't have everything? The full range of carrot cottages only seems to be on uk though. This medium sized one could be good - it's a bit tall but could be pushed down in the bedding a bit so the door is lower maybe. Or - just make one out of a tissue box or small amazon box eg to get it the right size and cut a door :-)

It might be too big though really, and the small one is a bit too small to encourage sleeping in. But this Getzoo house could be good for that corner. It's a one room house but a decent size, and this type are very lightweight so you could just pop it on without stilts for now.

What do you think? I suspect it's more about location than bedding. :hamstercool:

Aaah the location thing might be a possibility! Didn't know this is a "thing" for hamsters .
The divider is a glass platform, so is the item covered with mos, she sleeps underneath it in the paper pellets with some toilet paper.
She does go to the left side with paper bedding and on the cam i can see that she uses all her space during the night. Maybe i can take the platform/divider in the middle out or place it to the back of the enclosure, i could then spread the paper bedding over the complete surface.
Could that help?

I will look at the links you posted here later, thanks for the great ideas!

I think personally I would leave it as it is for now, rather than unsettle her - except maybe adding a house where she sleeps, but if she already sleeps under the moss covered platform then maybe a house isn't needed? But when you end up having to do a bigger clean than a spot clean you could maybe remove the glass divider then. However then the deeper area would encroach on the wheel wouldn't it? And jam it up.

She seems happy enough so I wouldn't worry too much :-) If at some point you wanted to do the bedding all the same deep level without the divider, it would be quite a major rearrange as items in the lower end would then need to be supported and I guess it might not even be possible as the wheel might not fit height-wise then.

She maybe doesn't feel the need to dig if she has an area that already mimics a burrow :-) If that hide entrance (is it stone/resin?) that leads under the moss covered platform is her area for sleeping and it's enclosed and dark she probably just loves that area! And it's close to her wheel. Sorry if I got mixed up I thought you meant she was sleeping in the open in the front right corner, hence suggesting popping a house over it!

She has lots of lovely enrichment in there, so if she's enjoying things as they are, maybe just leave it as it is :-)

Her sleeping spot is a bit dimmed by the most that covers the platform, but it isn't dark enough i would think, maybe she thinks otherwise.
It is enclosed with glass sides, only half of the front is open en there is the (i think it is resin) entrance.
The height of the wheel is adjustable, so i could spread the bedding more and the wheel can be in the same place.
She had deep bedding all over before, but still didn't dig or burrow. She seems to like to shuffle the paper pellets around a bit and make a nest in it, instead of the paper bedding.
Behind the wheel is also a small spot where she sleeps (under the small "bridge" at the back. There se has the paper pellets and the paper bedding both, but she kicks the paper bedding out 😆 she is a very funny hamster!

She sounds fun :-) I wouldn't change it if she wasn't digging before - some prefer to make a nest or just be quirky!
