Hello!

I was wondering if y’all thought Draco’s nails were too long? I can get them trimmed at the vet (he’s due for a checkup anyway- since I got him from a rescue situation) The photo may be a little blurry, but I hope you can see his nails!

Thank you!!

It’s really hard to tell from the photos in the first one maybe a little long but not really sure.

They look fine to me but it is hard to say from a photo. The vet will be able to tell you.

It is hard to tell but they don't look noticeably too long to me - when they get too long it is usually quite noticeable and they can start curling over at the ends. I can see one nail that might look a little bit long but not too bad. I would say they are fine right now but if you're having him checked over by a vet anyway you could ask them if his nails seem ok and they can advise how to snip them yourself if they get a bit long. It's just a bit of patience to attempt it. With a Syrian I maybe just snip one nail at a time while they're out of the cage and eating something that distracts them (eg porridge). So I surreptitiously snip one while they are preoccupied. Sometimes you can get two done, but they can then pull the leg away when they notice.

However it needs to just be the tiniest bit off the tip to avoid cutting the quick as that can bleed a lot and be painful for you. The vet can show you where to cut to but it's best to just literally snip 1mm or so off the end.
