I am also looking forward to finding out which the robos like. Interesting that robos tend to be picky. Not just Orko then.

As expected, Lilly pouched the lot. Only the herby bits are left but they always are.

The two Syrian boys seem to prefer the Little One mix but eat their Harry Hamster as well.
Lilly eats anything and the Robos seem to eat both mixes. Can't see a clear preference because they eat so little.
All in all, the Little One is a mix the hamsters like.

The Little One mix is going down well here too. I placed some in the forage tray and it was all empty by the morning. Then I just fed Harry Hamster the following night. Then last night thought I’d pop it in his dish furthest away from anything and again completely empty by morning . He’s also been pouching the science selective nuggets that I’ve hidden about.

I think they definitely need some form of added vitamins or all in one mix if the little one mix doesn't include fortified vitamins, so good idea to add some science selective

Yes, it’s good he’s still pouching both brands. I’ve looked in his nest tonight and he has an ample hoard but good to see it’s a nice mix which I hope means he’s eating fairly equal amounts of everything.

Hams tends to pop out for a drink around mid day each day and I‘ve noticed him chewing on the end of his water bottle recently. I opened the door to give him a stroke and sat watching for a bit to wait for the bubbles to pop up which they did and then I thought I’d give it a little squeeze for him to push more water through which he seemed to like. Maybe he’s just a bit impatient? I’m thinking I may pop a small tea light size water dish in tomorrow. He’s never had water in a dish before but I guess I can try?

All ours have always had a bottle and a bowl. They use both.

I didn't know that the Little One mix doesn't have fortified vitamins.

Good to know the little one mix is going down well & one worth adding to the good list.
As it doesn’t have added vitamins I would suggest using the doctor S tiny animal essentials as it’s easy to give the correct amount & can be sprinkled on anything so you can be fairly sure they’ve eaten it.

I wonder why the Little One mix doesn't have added vitamins. There must be a reason it was omitted.

All hamsters here get fresh veg daily and they eat them but unsure if that would suffice.

It might have something to do with the manufacturing process, it’s usually either sprayed on or added into the mix that makes up the biscuit type bits in mixes, not sure how they would do it with a more natural mix & possibly with smaller companies the process may not be financially viable, only guessing though.

It’s because it’s a natural German mix. Adding some science selective pellets should do the trick as well.

I'm just wondering if fortified vitamins are necessary. Do they supplement their natural mixes with something in Germany aside from fresh veg daily?

I think all commercial hamster mixes include fortified vitamins to ensure the nutritional requirements are met. I guess the idea of a natural mix is it should be calculated to contain all nutritional requirements but you can't always rely on that, and a hamster may not eat the right bits to get a balanced diet.

I don’t think supplements is the kind of thing they tend to do in Germany with hams really, they probably give a wider variety of veg & dried plants than we tend to & some of those things I’ve found my hams won’t touch, it’s almost as though they’ve been bred to eat a bit differently over there! It’s not the sort of thing I would look to German hamster care for advice on really & from having made my own mix for a long time I know it’s extremely hard to calculate micronutrients & micronutrients also vary an awful lot within the same food from season to season, where they’re grown among other factors so unlike macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs) it’s hard to be sure how much they get so I tend to go for insurance I guess.

I'm going to give this Dr S or Callinova Ltd company a ring tomorrow to see if they have a shop. They are not far from here and would be interesting.

I had so many problems with dried chicken way back I’ve been using Lily’s kitchen puppy treats for a long time now & no problems at all so stuck with it.
