I’m a textile artist, and RainbowBrite asked me to post some photos of my work…so here they are! I had my first solo exhibition last Spring called ’Rooted’ which was based on woodlands throughout the seasons. Edited: all my art pieces are hand knitted with natural yarns

Oh yes, I should have said! They are all hand knitted My exhibition was a mix of knitted textile pieces and my photographs.

That is very impressive. The nearest I got to anything that creative was knitting Innocent little hats (for the bottle tops).

Tbh, I haven‘t seen any work like mine, except an artist called Mary Walker Phillips from the 1960’s and 70’s. Most other work with yarn is macrame. I do knit more standard stuff too…jumpers, cardigans etc

I used to be a big knitter when I was younger. My Mother and Grandmother taught me when I was 5 or 6. The whole family were knitters. I knitted loads of stuff until my late twenties when work and life got in the way.

Nothing artistic like that though but I did used to adapt my own patterns for jumpers etc.

I learned to knit when I was 3 or 4, like you, taught by my mum and grandmother. I’ve focused on increasing my skills over the past 4 years which has made a big difference. I’m much more confident about tackling complex knits now ( photo is of one of my current projects). I find knitting really absorbing and relaxing as well as producing my own clothes and homewares as well as expressing myself through art.

That's lovely. I liked intricate patterns, but arran patterns always gave me some headaches! I used to love knitting mohair jumpers - 100% not mixed. They are incredibly warm (and fluffy!).

I usually find aran cables fiddly and annoying, but funnily enough, I’m really enjoying knitting this one! I do like creating different textures

I used to always knit in front of the TV in the evenings. I have never been able to just sit and watch TV without doing something - I get fidgetty. These days I just do things around the house as I still can't sit and watch TV all night! Every winter I think - I'll get my knitting out. But the last few years have been a bit strange, what with the pandemic and so on.

I think Daisy does quite a few textile crafts as well.

I knit in front of the TV too I have different projects on the go at any one time to suit different moods and times of day…more complex projects for the morning or afternoon and something simple for the evening in front of the telly. I’m currently doing my knitting whilst listening to the cricket World Cup on the radio Maybe start with a small knitting project eg wrist warmers or a hat to get back in the swing of it…something you can just pick up for a few minutes at a time Our lives have changed quite a bit following the pandemic (I was shielding during the pandemic and am still avoiding crowded indoor places) and also following losing our dog Monty. We are still very much adjusting to life without him and trying to find a new normal.

I’ve never been able to knit, the only thing I can do with wool is needle. felting, so I’m really impressed, love all the natural colours & the textures.

Needle felting is one thing I haven’t tried!
