Albert this morning sitting on his favourite cushion before asking to go on the floor for a run around.


I hid some treats for Albert this morning on his free roam. He enjoyed pouching them. Albert then made my son laugh because Albert took a running jump and attached my big toe again and while I was distracted checking my toe Albert ran to the treat container that I forgot to close and filled his pouches. I had to scoop Albert out. All fun and games. Why does Albert attack my big toes? My son says "it's because they stink".

Sounds like Albert had a lot of fun this morning, had to laugh at his cheeky antics! That’s a lovely photo of him too
I think to them things like toes are just sitting there looking to be grabbed, nipped or generally explored! He probably thinks you put them there just for him!

What a clever plan of Albert's. He distracted you and then made a run for the treats. He is adorable. I love that picture of him.

I didn't know that hamsters can do a running jump either. Albert is very inventive in his distraction methods to get to the treats.

That is a lovely photo of Albert He seems very confident around you and that is nice. They do such funny things. Maybe your toe moved slightly and, being in forage mode, he thought it might be a big juicy insect

One of my own rules is: never go barefoot when there's a dwarf running about, especially not Lilly.

I forgot to mention earlier.
When I put the lid back on the treat box my son asked me to put the treat box back on the floor to see what Albert would do. Albert obviously couldn't unscrew the lid so he had a tantrum instead.
When Albert is free roaming he has a mug that sits partly on a cloth because if Albert ever gets caught short he has a wee in there and the cloth catches any drips.
So when he had his tantrum he grabbed the cloth with his mouth and paws and started attacking it viciously. My son and I both burst out laughing Albert has never done that before so I guess it was his way of telling me he wasn't happy that I removed him from the treat box.

Beryl after seeing how Albert attacked the cloth I think I'm going to take your advice and keep a pair of socks near Albert's cage

Albert has always used the mug to wee in. For some reason he just decided that was going to be his toilet when out free roaming. When he first did it he got a few drips on a blanket so I decided to put a cloth there to catch them. Boys and their drips If only I could use something similar for the other males in my life

Should I put bedding or nesting loo roll or nothing into a coconut hide?

I don't put anything in it and let them decide Sometimes they just like to curl up in it.

I always put substrate in mine or a bit of both, mine seem to like it that way & they can always chuck it out if they don’t approve!

I had to have a difficult phone conversation yesterday...
I sat waiting for my mobile phone to ring. The call was booked for 12pm. My mobile rang at 2 minutes passed. I took a deep breath and answered it. Within 5 minutes of the call I was trying to hold back my tears. I glanced over at Albert's cage and there he was sitting in his favourite spot looking at me. I was so surprised to see him at that time of day. He gave me the courage to carry on the conversation. Albert sat there for other half an hour just looking at me. When the phone called ended i said "thank you" to Albert. Albert then grabbed some loo roll and went back to his nest. My hubby phoned me minutes later to see how my phone conversation had gone. I told him what Albert did. My hubby said "Albert is your guardian angel". That made me cry all over again.

It's amazing how most animals pick up on the emotion their humans give out Albert bless him sensed what you were feeling. Love his photo by the way he is adorable. Stay strong sending hugs and good wishes for you

Albert came out to play last night. I sat on the floor and Albert was running around having fun and then I realised I had no socks Every time Albert came running near my feet I quickly moved them. Albert decided to turn this into a game of chase the toes. I'm not sure who got more of a workout Albert or me
