Aw I am sorry. Perhaps the spout is too thick. It was very thoughtful of you to buy it for Albert. I actually saw one review which said the persons dwarfie could not get the water either. Maybe the bottle is better for Syrians. Is Albert using the tea light holder at all?

No I ended up taking the tea light holder out because Albert decided to pee all up against it. I didn't want Albert getting ill from drinking pee water. Well he probably wouldn't drink it but just in case. At least Albert went back on his wheel last night and didn't pee on it. Never a dull moment and he always keeps me guessing.

Never a dull moment indeed! Naughty Albert peeing on his water bowl I had a hamster who decided a food pot was a toilet once - because it was in the corner (it was one of those pots that was inset in the corner of a shelf).

That's a good point that maybe those bottles are better for Syrians Rainbow. Although our robo has one as well. I think it must just be faulty.

Just been chatting to Albert. He's so happy and relaxed. It's so lovely to watch him hamster about.

Are lentils safe for hamsters to eat? If yes raw or cooked?

I think there are better things for them to eat - I believe lentils are considered to have a bit too much roughage (either raw or cooked) but I'm not entirely sure to be honest. They're not on either our safe or unsafe food lists. Raw pasta is ok. I tend to go with - if in doubt, leave it out.

It's lovely that Albert is relaxed and happy with you!

Lentils seem to be ok for Syrians or at least they are in some German mixes but I wouldn’t recommend them for dwarf hams.
I have occasionally given mine a cooked chickpea (just cooked in plain water) & they. quite liked that but only as a very occasional thing.

Sorry to hear you’re having so much trouble with water bottles & bowls, when I used bottles I only ever used the classic ones & never had any problems with them.
The only water bowl I’ve used is the Rodipet one, delivery costs are really high now though so probably not an option.

It’s a shame about the new water bottle, but maybe as mentioned above, the little ball bearing in the spout is just too heavy for him. Guessing water comes out if you give it a good squeeze. We had a new one that didn’t work, but after several rapid and prolonged squeezes into the sink it was fine? I didn’t know if this was some kind of air lock?

Water bottles can be a pain - I've used the classic ones too and had bad ones of those as well! I found I had to replace them quite regularly. I've also had a Ferplast drinky one that didn't work but mostly they've been good. I don't think the spout should be too wide as they just kind of lick the end to get the water out. Sounds like the ball isn't working properly - it should be easy to push. I've used the drinky ones for a long time, out of preference, but I know the classic ones are very popular too.

The Ferplast sippy one works quite well as well - but it's a weird one. I will never get one again though, because it also had a bar attachment that screwed to bars (or could be fixed to tanks) and it got stuck on my cage for years - we couldn't get it off! In the end it took a saw!

I can't remember which cage Albert is in and need to read back. If he's in a barred cage, you can get a bowl in a holder to attach to the bars and put a smaller bowl in it. I've done that before with a dwarf who was a bit of an acrobat.

Water did drip out when I squeezed the bottle. So I don't think it's a fault with the bottle. I just don't think Albert has a strong enough.

It did come with a stainless steel bowl but it's very flimsy.

That'll be fine anyway. Agree those stainless steel ones in the holder are very flimsy. At one time I used to have two water bottles in the cage, in case one failed or emptied itself out (an issue I'd had with the smaller classic bottles but maybe unlucky). But then I stopped doing that once I found a bottle that worked ok and only put two bottles in if I was away overnight.

If the classic one is working for albert, then that's good. It's maybe what they get used to as well.

I think blurry photos & hams go together anyway they aren’t the easiest to photograph.

I think hamsters can sense these things. They are quite sensitive little things in tune with emotions IMO
