Is the larger one spinning freely or a bit stiff? My latest 12" one was slightly stiff so I put a bit of olive oil on the spinning section and that improved it a lot! But you need to wipe any excess olive oil off or the hamster will try and lick it.

Yes it's spinning freely.
I've been out and got Albert a smaller one. It's 18.5cm (7.28inch).

Dont forget to freeze them for a week first. I am looking forward to hearing how Albert reacts to them.

I have cardboard covering the bars on 3 sides of Albert's cage for cosiness and to keep substrate in. The cardboard doesn't have any damage.
How often should I replace the cardboard?

I'd say never I am sure it will stay clean. If it did start to look like it needed replacing you could add some new.

Albert really is enjoying his walnut, quite a good balancing act sat on his tube too!
I really noticed his beautiful eyes in that vid too.
