Albert is so cute eating his monkey nut. Great idea to use half a sputnik as a shelter. He looks like he's in his garden having a picnic under a pegoda.

I tried the sputnik hanging from the roof but I just couldn't get it to work with what is already in Albert's cage. Then I put it on the floor of his cage and Albert had a fit and started to attack it. So I took it apart and I'm just using the biggest half of the sputnik and Albert loves it. Got there in the end

I've had a bit of a tidy up in Albert's cage. One of the jobs was to clean Albert's sand bath. As you know Albert is very protective of his sand bath. I normally do it when he's outside of his cage but today I thought I do it while he was a sleep 
So I took the sand bath out and sat on the floor. I sieved all the sand and topped it up with some fresh sand. Good job done I thought all without disturbing Albert. I went back to the cage with the sand bath and who should be waiting for me looking at the empty gap left from the sand bath... Albert He looked up at me as if to say "what do you think your doing". Ups! Anyway he let me put his sand bath back without charging me and nipping. I gave him a couple of treats and all is good.

. He is so adorable! Very expressive and cute.
I’ve also used the half Sputnik upside down like that before - did it for our last Robo when he had to have things that couldn’t catch his lump and he liked it too. It gives them a bit of shelter. I think they hang so high up that they can be tricky to get right. He clearly likes it like that. He seems to know what he likes in his cage too. It’s normal for them to be a bit territorial over their stuff and give you a “don’t mess with my stuff “ reaction.
Pip is like that if I take his food bowl out to empty it. Major drama until it’s put back again.

I think Albert loves you so much he will forgive you removing his sand bath once he gets his treat after. That was such a cute and funny story.

If Hamsters could meerkat with their front paws resting on their hips that's how Albert would have been standing when I got back.

Happens every time with me when I think I can sneak in & do something while they sleep, I’m sure they sleep with one eye open!

I also get it a bit when emptying the toilet with sand in with syrians. They not only investigate the empty space anxiously but have this annoying habit of then sitting in the gap so you then can't put the potty tray back because they're in the way. I've had a few hamsters do that. And it's quite tricky to get them to move out of the way nicely!

The worst animal for doing that was our late bunny. Every time we wanted to clean his litter tray he sat in it and refused to move and often lay down it too. I think he thought we would think he was asleep.

Albert came out for a runaround and cuddle. He likes to sit on the back of the sofa and have a good wash. He's so cute to watch.
So picture in your head. Big 3 seat sofa. Me sitting one end watching Albert having a good wash behind hubby's head who was sitting watching TV the other end of the sofa.
