Thanks for the advice. It sounds like a busy time if you're movingA tip when moving with hamsters (I've had to do it!). It's a good idea to leave them till the last - ie pack everything else first ready to go. Then for the last thing, put them in a pet carrier with plenty of bedding and ideally a blanket or similar over the top of the pet carrier so it's dark inside. And have the pet carriers somewhere quiet where there won't be a lot of noise and disturbance while everything else is being taken out into a van or whatever. Then bag up all the contents of the cage so they can be put back again at the other end and still smell familiar. Load up the cage last so it's the first thing you can get out again at the other end. If you have to travel by car or train, have the pet carriers with you on your knee with the blanket over them, so you can hold them steady. Or if you're the driver, wedge the pet carrier into the vehicle somewhere so it can't move if you have to brake.
When you get to the other end - set up the hamster cage first - ideally in a quiet room or place where most of the unloading isn't going to occur. So as the hamster cage was the last thing to go in, it can be the first thing to come out. Set that up with all the stuff you bagged up and pop the hamster back in it's cage in the quiet area. Then you can get on with all the unloading and unpacking!
If the place where the cage is, isn't where you want it permanently, then wait a few days or until you've finished all the unpacking (so the hamster can adjust a bit) and then move the cage to it's permanent location.
Of course you may not be moving entire house contents and just packing a bag to take but the same advice applies re moving the hamster and setting the cage up first thing when you get there. If the idea is to get a new cage when you get there - rather than taking one with you - then it's quite important to bag up all the contents of the old one including all the bedding - so something smells familiar and like home in their new cage![]()
Thank you so much! I love him very much!I'm so so so sorry about your cat...that is truly tragic and I think you're amazing for staying so strong. I truly believe animals go to a better place when they pass. Your cat was blessed to have you as an owner!
Dash is just precious!! Oh my gosh he is so fluffy! I wish I could stroke him! He looks so healthy and curious too. It sounds like he's really the love of your life! I love his name, that's so perfect!
Yes. I am very excited. Wanted to get him all set up so that I didn't have to worry about him in the move.So is Dash already at your Dad's in a new cage and you're moving in 6 days?
I brush him everyday with a soft toothbrush. Well he eats a yogi treat. Such a special boy.He looks very fluffy and soft![]()
