I thought I would share the story of my first ever animals. I had never had any experience with animals until I got my first guinea pigs. This means, I had never even touched an animal!
I found out the RSPCA had guinea pigs and I wanted to adopted them but at that time they would not allow anybody without a garden to adopt. I then saw an advert on the free ads were somebody could not keep two guinea pigs. There was hardly any information and not even a picture but I still contacted the person and somebody I knew at the time collected the guinea pigs for me.
Two little ginger piggies came into my world. They were sisters and I named them Amelia Jane and Peronel. Sadly I do not have many pictures of them but I have managed to find the few I have.
At first I was afraid to even touch them but soon got over that.
This is Peronel.
Peronel was a quiet and happy girl who adored food. Here she is eating parsley. She was quite content and would sit with me a lot. She liked sitting on my lap and we would watch programmes together. She loved food and was forever trying to get food when she knew I was eating. She was quite a drama queen and the first time I attempted to cut her nails she screamed so loudly even though I had only touched one paw with my hand.
She was much more confident then her sister and firmly in control. She was with me until she was 4 and sadly passed due to a tumour.
Here is Amelia Jane.
Amelia Jane always wanted to be cosy and wrapped in blankets or in the inside of my dressing gown. She was very tiny and it took a while for her to grow although she remained small. She was very demanding and always wanted something. She would make noise so I would go over, take her out and tuck her inside my dressing gown until she wanted to go back and the same thing would happen all over again.
Amelia Jane was very popular with any guinea pig friends she made. (I later got more guinea pigs). She never got involved in any arguing and always found herself in the company of other piggies.
Amelia Jane is a satin hence her shiny fur. This is not a good thing with guinea pigs and she had arthritis as well as frequent bladder issues. She was on pain relief for most of her life but despite this she lived to be over 6 years old.
I learned such a lot from Peronel and Amelia Jane. They introduced me to animals and I am so happy I found them on the advert. I have so many wonderful memories of them and I have a small picture of them in my wallet that I have always carried with me.
